Award in Memory of Navy's 1971 War Hero Mulla

  • An award was instituted in the memory of Navy Capt Mahendra Nath Mulla, who was decorated with Mahavir Chakra for gallantry during the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.
  • The award, which has a rolling trophy and a cash award of Rs. 1.50 lakh, was instituted for students of Navy Children School, Delhi.
  • Named 'Capt MN Mulla, MVC, Memorial Outstanding Student Award', the award will be given to a boy and a girl "selected on the basis of clarity of vision, courage of conviction and commitment".
  • Ameeta Mulla Wattal and Anjali Kaul, daughters of Capt Mulla, instituted the award.

  • The 1st Academy Awards were held in 1929 at a private dinner hosted by Douglas Fairbanks in The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
  • A total of 3,140 Oscar statuettes have been awarded since its inception in 1929 (as in 2023).

Sir David Chipperfield Selected as the 2023 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize

  • Civic architect, urban planner and activist, Sir David Alan Chipperfield was selected as the 2023 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the award that is regarded internationally as architecture's highest honour. Chipperfield's storied career spans more than 40 years and includes 100-plus projects, ranging from civic, cultural, and academic buildings to residences and urban master planning throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. His built works, spanning over four decades, are expansive in typology and geography, including over one hundred works ranging from civic, cultural and academic buildings to residences and urban masterplanning throughout Asia, Europe and North America.
  • The Pritzker Architecture Prize established by the Hyatt Foundation in 1979, the annual award honours architects whose built work demonstrates a combination talent, vision, and commitment. Last year, Francis Kéré became the first black architect to win the prize, while 2021 saw Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal honoured for their collaborative practice.

Union MoS L. Murugan Confers 8th National Photography Awards

  • Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan presented the 8th National Photography awards in New Delhi. A total of thirteen awards were presented during the ceremony today including 6 each in the Professional and Amateur category. The theme for the Professional category was "Life and Water", while in the Amateur category the theme was "Cultural Heritage of India".
  • A total of 13 awards were presented comprising of one Lifetime Achievement Award with cash prize of Rs.3,00,000; one award each in Professional Photographer of the Year category and Amateur Photographer of the Year category with cash prize of Rs.1,00,000 and Rs.75,000, respectively; and 5 Special Mention Awards in both Professional and Amateur categories with cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and Rs.30,000 each respectively.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award- Ms. Sipra Das, Professional Photographer of the Year Award- Sasi Kumar Ramachandran and Amateur Photographer of the Year Award - Arun Saha.

Himachal Govt. Hikes Monetary Award for Mahila Vikas Protsahan Puraskar

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a nearly five-fold increase in the monetary award under the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Vikas Protsahan Puraskar.
  • Presiding over a state-level event for International Women's Day, Sukhu said that the monetary award for the Mahila Vikas Protsahan Puraskar was hiked to Rs. 1 lakh from the current Rs. 21,000.
  • The allowance for district-level awards was raised from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000.
  • The Mahila Vikas Protsahan Puraskar is awarded to women who excel in various fields. Sukhu honoured freelance journalist Dev Kanya Thakur, social worker Sangeeta Khurana and Anvesha Negi.

Punjab DISCOM Gets 'Top Performer' Award for Energy Conservation Measures

  • The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was awarded as top performer among all DISCOMS across the country for energy conservation measures under Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) program of the Union Ministry for Power.
  • The award ceremony was held at New Delhi.

NTPC Conferred with the CBIP Award 2022

  • NTPC Limited, was honoured with the CBIP Award 2022 for 'Outstanding Contribution in Power Generation', attributed to its Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station, the largest power station in the country for its efficiency and high level of generation.
  • The award presented by R. K. Singh, Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy.
  • The CBIP Awards are conferred to institutions/individuals for their outstanding contributions to the development of water, power and renewable energy sectors.
  • The award stands as testimony to NTPC's enduring contribution to the generation of power in the country.
