Indira Gandhi Peace Prize Awarded to Daniel Barenboim and Ali Abu Awwad

  • In a remarkable acknowledgment of their tireless efforts towards fostering peace and understanding in the tumultuous region of West Asia, the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development for 2023 was jointly conferred upon renowned classical pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian peace activist Ali Abu Awwad.   • The award ceremony will take place at Rukmini Auditorium in MGM University campus of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on January 3, 2024.

Ex-UN Secy Gen Ban Ki-moon Gets Power of One Award 2023

  • In the United States, former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at the Power of One Award 2023 ceremony, organised by the Diwali Foundation USA. The awards are granted to selfless individuals for their help to form a peaceful and secure world for all. They are hailed as the 'Oscars of Diplomacy'.
  • Other awardees included former permanent representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN, Ambassador Mirsada Colakovic; former permanent representative of South Korea to the UN Ambassador, Kim Sook; and 72nd UN General Assembly president and EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.

Noted Hindi Writer Pushpa Bharati to Receive 33rd Vyas Samman

  • Noted Hindi writer Pushpa Bharati's 2016 memoir, Yaadein, Yaadein aur Yaadein, was selected for the Vyas Samman, 2023, the KK Birla Foundation announced.
  • Instituted in 1991, the award is given to an outstanding Hindi literary work by an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years. It carries a cash prize of Rs. 4 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
  • After considering the works published during 2013-2022, a selection committee headed by eminent litterateur Prof. Ramji Tiwari picked Bharati's 'Yaadein, Yaadein aur Yaadein' for the prestigious award.
  • Born in 1935 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Pushpa Bharati embarked on her literary journey, earning an MA in Hindi literature from Prayag University in 1955. With a career spanning decades, she has crafted a diverse body of work, earning critical acclaim for her unique writing style and language proficiency.
