International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

  •  The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.
  • It is observed annually on 26th June, since 1989. The observance was instituted by General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.
  • On 26th June 1987, two important texts (Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Outline of Future Activities in Drug Abuse Control & Declaration of the International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking) were adopted at the International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which was held in Vienna during 17-26 June 1987.
  • The Conference recommended that an annual day should be observed to mark the importance of the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
  • Both the dates 17 June and 26 June were suggested, and in the later meetings 26 June was chosen and written into the draft and final resolution.

United Nations Public Service Day

  •  The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23 of every year. The prestigious UN Public Service Awards are given away on this day.
  • The UN Public Service Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly's resolution A/RES/57/277 of 2003, to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community.
  • The United Nations Economic and Social Council established that the United Nations Public Service Awards be bestowed on Public Service Day for contributions made to the cause of enhancing the role, prestige, and visibility of public service.
  • The day also marks the anniversary of the date when the International Labour Organisation adopted the Convention on Labour Relations (Public Service), 1978 (No. 151).
  • This Convention is a framework for determining working conditions of all civil servants across the world.

International Day of Yoga

  •  International Day of Yoga, or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
  • The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27th September 2014.
  • On 11 December 2014, India's Permanent Representative Asoke Mukerji introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly.
  • The draft text received broad support from 177 Member States who sponsored the text, which was adopted without a vote.
  • This initiative found support from many global leaders. A total of 177 nations co-sponsored the resolution, which is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA resolution of such nature.
  • The theme for 2019 International Day of Yoga is "Yoga for climate change".

World Refugee Day

  •  World Refugee Day is an international observance observed on June 20 each year. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
  • On 4th December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 55/76 decided that, from 2000, 20th June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day.
  • In this resolution, the General Assembly noted that 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
  • The theme for World Refugee Day 2019 is 'StepWithRefugees — Take A Step on World Refugee Day'. The theme focuses on that there is a need to take big and small steps in solidarity with refugees from around the world.

Kisan Agri Expo in December

  •  Farmers in India are increasingly adopting farm mechanisation. Innovative machines and equipment are being developed to make their job more efficient and easier.
  • Farmers will get to see a whole range of these machines at KISAN 2019 - Agriculture exhibition, scheduled in Pune from December 11 to 15.
  • KISAN 2019 is set to be the largest agri show with over 600 companies displaying their products and services for the farming community.
  • Over two lakh farmers and agri professionals from across India are expected to visit the expo.
  • KISAN fair will also have an array of products and ideas, where the farmer will see the most advanced solutions using digital technologies well integrated with the farm machinery.

56th Fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2019

  •  In its 56th edition, fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2019, co-powered by Sephora & Rajnigandha Pearls, could have well passed for a couture-clad spectator sport.
  • Departing from the event opening norm of catwalking in cocktail gowns and standing with their hands akimbo, contestants arrived dancing in their respective home state's traditional ensemble.
  • These glamorous, young ambassadors of Indian states were divided into two zones this year and mentored by Bollywood stars Dia Mirza (South and North zones), and Neha Dhupia (East and West zones), both of whom confessed to having developed maternal impulses towards their mentees over the last two months.
  • Rajasthan's 20-year-old Suman Rao was crowned fbb Colors Femina Miss India World 2019. Chhattisgarh's 23-year-old Shivani Jadhav was declared fbb Colors Femina Miss Grand India 2019 and Bihar's 22-year-old Shreya Shanker won fbb Colors Femina Miss India United Continents 2019. Telangana's Sanjana Vij, 24, was sashed as fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2019-Runner-up.
