Bhim Singh, J&K Panthers Party Founder, Passes Away

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party founder Prof Bhim Singh died after a prolonged illness. He was 82. The veteran leader was affectionately called 'Sher-e-Jammu' for raising the voice of the people of Jammu before the successive Kashmir-centric governments. He is survived by his wife and son.
In November 2020, he was expelled from the party he had founded for taking part in a meeting of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) at the Bhatindi residence of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah. Prof Bhim had raised the Panthers Party in 1982.
Panthers Party suffered a major setback in recent times after its chairperson and former education minister Harsh Dev Singh besides former MLAs Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Paul Kundal quit the party and joined the AAP.

Eminent Singer KK Passes Away in Kolkata

Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away at the age of 53. He was performing at an event in Kolkata. He was brought to the CMRI hospital and declared dead. He performed in the iconic Nazrul Mancha auditorium till 8:30 pm. He suddenly fell ill and returned to his hotel. When his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the CMRI hospital in Kolkata, where he was declared dead.
KK had performed in to back-to-back shows in Kolkata in the past two days.

Legendary Jockey Lester Piggott Dies

The nine-time Epsom Derby winning jockey, legendary flat race jockey Lester Piggott died aged 86. Piggott is widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys in the sport's history.
The 11-time British champion jockey rode 16 Irish classic winners at the track largely due to his partnership with trainer Vincent O'Brien. His first Derby winner came when he was just 18 on Never Say Die in 1954 with his ninth and last Teenoso in 1983.
Piggott rode his first winner, The Chase, at Haydock in 1948 when just 12 years of age and his last win came with Palacegate Jack at the same track in 1994, a few weeks short of his 59th birthday. He retired for a final time in 1995. He rode 4,493 winners, the third highest tally in British racing history behind only Gordon Richards and Pat Eddery.

Former Albania President Bujar Nishani Passes Away

Bujar Nishani, a former Albanian President had died at 55 due to a health problem. President Bujar Nishani born on 29 September 1966 in Durrës, Albania, was well known for his centre-right political affiliation with the leftist coalition. He served as president from 2012 until 2017. At 45, he was elected as the youngest and sixth president in post-communist Albania, supported only by lawmakers from the centre-right Democratic party of then-Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

Congress Leader Moosewala Shot Dead in Punjab

Congress leader and popular Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead near Mansa. He was shot at while he was driving his SUV in village Jhawahar Ke in Mansa district with two others, and was declared brought dead at the Mansa Civil Hospital.
Moosewala, who belonged to Moosa village near Mansa, was the voice of many superhit songs over the last few years. In February 2022, he had contested the Assembly polls on a Congress ticket from Mansa, losing to AAP's Vijay Singla — the minister who was sacked by the AAP government and arrested earlier over alleged corruption charges.

Veteran Communist Leader Shivaji Patnaik Passes Away

Veteran Communist leader and three-time Member of Parliament Shivaji Patnaik passed away. He was 93. Shivaji Patnaik is lauded as the founder of CPI (Marxist) in Odisha. Born on August 10, 1930, the veteran leader had joined the state student's movement at the age of 17 when he was studying in Ravenshaw College. Patnaik had a crucial role in the formation of CPI(M) when the Communist party faced division in 1964. He remained the party secretary from 1971 to 1990. He was also elected to the Central Committee of the party.
The departed leader was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1977. Subsequently, on two occasions, 1989 and 1991, he entered the Lower House of Parliament after winning the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat.

Laungewala Battle Braveheart Col Dharamvir No More

Colonel Dharamvir, who had played a key role in the iconic Battle of Laungewala fought in the deserts of Rajasthan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, passed away in Gurugram. As a 22-year-old Lieutenant deployed with 23 Punjab in the Jaisalmer sector, he was the first to report about Pakistani incursion to his company commander, Major (later Brigadier) Kulip Singh Chandpuri. Fought between December 4 and 7, the Battle of Laungewala was immortalised by Bollywood blockbuster "Border" in 1997, and Col Dharamvir's role was played by Akshay Khanna.
The battalion's A company, comprising over 120 soldiers, fought a decisive battle against heavy odds, holding on to their positions and repulsing multiple attacks by a Pakistani brigade-sized force and inflicting heavy infantry and armour casualties. According to excerpts, in the morning of December 4, Dharamvir, along with other soldiers, was on a foot patrol along the international border when he heard the sound of Pakistani tanks. From an observation point, he spotted a full brigade of Pakistani tanks ahead.
