Indigenously Built Indian Naval Landing Craft L58 Commissioned

Indian Naval Landing Craft Utility (LCU) L58, the eighth and last ship of the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mark IV Class, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) Lieutenant General Manoj Pande was the Chief Guest and Chairman & Managing Director, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena, IN (Retd) was present for the event.
The LCU 58 is an amphibious ship that can carry 160 troops, in addition to its crew. With a displacement of 900 tons, the ship is capable of carrying various types of combat vehicles such as Main Battle Tanks (MBTs), BMPs, Armoured Vehicles, trucks, etc.

Indian Navy Conducts Passage Exercise with Bahrain's Navy

Indian Navy undertook Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Royal Bahrain Naval Force Corvette Al Muharraq in the Persian Gulf under Operation Sankalp.
Enhancing interoperability & strengthening bilateral Maritime cooperation, Reassuring Diaspora & merchant shipping INS Talwar Mission Deployed for Op Sankalp, undertook Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Royal Bahrain Naval Force Corvette Al Muharraq in the Persian Gulf till March 21.
PASSEXs are conducted regularly by the Indian Navy with units of friendly foreign navies, whilst visiting each other's ports or during a rendezvous at sea.
Maritime Security Operations, code-named Op Sankalp was initiated in the Gulf region on June 19, 2019, in the aftermath of the attacks on merchant ships in the Gulf of Oman.

KRAS Rolls Out the First Batch of Indigenous Missiles for Indian Army

Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS) rolled out its first batch of medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Army and the Air Force from its Hyderabad plant.
KRAS is a joint venture between the Kalyani Group and Israel's Rafael Advanced Defence Systems. This was part of the company's agreement to deliver over 1000 MRSAM missile kits to the Indian Army and Air Force over the coming years.
These missile sections will then be further integrated by state-run Bharat Dynamics Limited.

Army Decommissions 130mm Self-propelled Guns and 160mm Mortars

The Army decommissioned two of the longest serving artillery systems, the 130mm self-propelled M-46 catapult guns and 160mm Tampella Mortars from service at Mahajan field firing ranges.
"These weapon systems, having been in the inventory of the Army for close to 60 years, have been decommissioned to make way for newer equipment employing the latest technologies," an Army statement said.
The ceremony was marked by the customary firing of last salvos.
The 130mm Catapult inducted in 1981, with a range of more than 27 km, was a successful merger of two existing weapon systems, Vijayanta tanks and 130mm M-46 guns.

India's Import of Arms Decreases

According to a report released by Stockholm-based defence think-tank SIPRI, India's import of arms decreased by 33 per cent between 2011–15 and 2016–20 and Russia was the most affected supplier.
It said the drop in Indian arms imports seemed to have been the result of the country's complex procurement processes combined with an attempt to reduce its dependence on Russian arms.
In the last few years, India has taken a series of measures to boost domestic defence industry with an aim to reduce dependence on imported military platforms and hardware.
