NSG Signs MoU Aimed to Enhance Proficiency as Zero Error Force

With focus on a dual mission, the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation and collaboration aimed at strengthening the core competencies of the NSG, which are counter-terrorism, counter-IEDs, and anti-hijacking. DG NSG M A Ganapathy and Prof (Dr) Bimal N Patel, Vice-Chancellor RRU signed the MoU at the Manesar campus of NSG.
The MoU also aims to contribute to capacity-building and providing assistance to Indian start-ups focused on security by helping them to understand the specific requirements and the problem statements formulated by NSG for design and research projects.
The aim of the MoU is to synergise the expertise of NSG & RRU to embolden innovation, incubation, training, research, and distance education in the field of security through the 'Security and Scientific-Technical Research Association' (SASTRA) and RRU's Integrated Space for e-Education (RISE) platform and tie-ups with Indian start-ups dealing with security-related products.
The MoU will cover major themes to get the benefits to NSG. It will establish global standards through collaboration in the field of security, infrastructure, education, knowledge and research as well as facilitate the accreditation and certification of all courses run by NSG. It will also give the much-needed impetus to National Bomb Data Centre by accreditation to its activities and creating AIML based IED data management software for NBDC and also bridging equipment gaps by developing solutions to problem statements through incubation start-ups by SASTRA RRU.

BRO Sets up 2 Centres of Excellence

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated two centres of excellence established by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at Seema Sadak Bhawan in New Delhi. At the event, Mr. Singh also flagged off the first-ever solo women motorcycle expedition by Kanchan Ugursandi to Umling La Pass, Ladakh and back.
The Centre of Excellence for Road Safety and Awareness (CoERSA) aims to create awareness about road safety through analysis sharing of road accidents and suggesting methods to save precious lives. "The Centre of Excellence for Roads, Bridges, Air Fields and Tunnels (CoERBAT) focuses on institutionalising the knowledge gained over the years in development of almost 60,000 kilometres of roads, 56,000 metres of bridges, 19 airfields and four tunnels in the eastern and north-western part of the country.

Two Women Army Officers Selected to Train as Combat Pilots

As per reports, two women army officers have for the first time been selected to train as helicopter pilots at the force's premier Combat Army Aviation Training School at Nashik in Maharashtra.
The development comes months after army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane cleared a proposal for allowing women officers to opt for the army's aviation wing. While women officers in the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy fly helicopters, the Army Aviation Corps only inducted male officers until now. Pilots have to go through a stringent selection process.
Fifteen women officers volunteered to join army aviation. But only two were selected after the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) and medicals.

Navies of India and Thailand Begin 3-day Coordinated Patrol in Andaman Sea

The Indian and Thai navies kicked off a three-day coordinated patrol in the Andaman Sea in the backdrop of growing concern over China's increasing maritime presence in the Indian Ocean region.
The Indian Navy's offshore patrol vessel INS Saryu and Thai ship Krabi along with Dornier maritime patrol aircraft from both navies are participating in the 31st edition of the India-Thailand coordinated patrol (CORPAT).
The two navies have been bi-annually undertaking CORPAT along their international maritime boundary line (IMBL) since 2005 with an aim to keep the vital part of the Indian Ocean safe and secure for global trade.

Rajesh Pendharkar Assumes Charge as DG Naval Operations

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM, VSM has assumed charge as Director General Naval Operations. The Flag Officer is a specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and has served on frontline warships of the Navy as ASW Officer and later as the Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of Guided Destroyer INS Mysore. He has commanded the missile corvette INS Kora, the missile frigate INS Shivalik and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

Rajnath Invites Swedish Defence Firms to Set Up Manufacturing Hubs in India

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh invited leading Swedish defence majors to set up manufacturing bases in India as he showcased the country as an attractive destination for investment to produce military equipment and platforms.
The defence minister also mentioned allowing up to 74 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) through automatic route and up to 100 per cent through government route in the defence manufacturing sector.
He said the technology-centric FDI policy will enable Indian industries to collaborate with Swedish industries in the field of niche and proven military technologies.

Russia Confirms Exit from Open Skies Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a Bill to withdraw from an international treaty allowing surveillance flights over military facilities, following the US exit from the pact.
The Bill was endorsed by Russian lawmakers after US officials told Moscow last month that President Joe Biden's administration had decided not to reenter the Open Skies Treaty that the US left under President Donald Trump.
As a presidential candidate, Biden had criticised Trump's withdrawal as "short-sighted". Moscow had signaled its readiness to reverse the withdrawal procedure and stay in the 1992 treaty if the United States returned to the agreement, but now Putin's signature seals the Russian withdrawal that would take effect in six months.

Indian Navy's Decommissions Oldest Hydrographic Survey Ship INS Sandhayak

Indian Navy's oldest hydrographic survey ship INS Sandhayak was decommissioned at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam after serving the nation for 40 glorious years.
The ship has been an active participant in many significant operations such as Operation Pawan (assisting the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka in 1987) and Operation Rainbow (rendering humanitarian assistance post Tsunami of 2004).
The ship was decommissioned in a solemn and low-key event due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic when the National Flag, Naval Ensign, and the Decommissioning Pennant were lowered at sunset time in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, AVSM, VSM Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command.
The ship was commissioned to the Indian Navy on February 26, 1981.

Govt. Approves Construction of 6 Advanced Submarines

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved issuing a request for proposal (RFP) for the construction of six conventional submarines under the Strategic Partnership (SP) model.
The project envisages the indigenous construction of six conventional submarines equipped with the state-of-the-art Air Independent Propulsion system at an estimated cost of Rs. 43,000 crore. In a press note, the Defence Ministry said that this would be the first case processed under the SP model and will be one of the largest 'Make in India' projects.
The ministry also approved proposals concerning the procurement of air defence guns and ammunition worth Rs. 6,000 crore under the Buy & Make (Indian) category.
