Elta and Hensoldt Team up for German Ballistic Missile Defense Radar

  • Germany's Hensoldt has won a contract to supply new radars to the country's military, with Israel Aerospace Industries also contributing toward the ultimate goal of modernizing Germany's ballistic missile defense capabilities.
  • The €200 million (U.S. $236 million) contract comes in the wake of a June deal with IAI subsidiary Elta Systems to supply 69 tactical mobile radars to Germany's land forces. Both deals were signed with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support.
  • The latest contract is for four long-range radars as part of the Hughes Air Defence Radar Nachfolgesystem program.
  • Elta and Hensoldt previously cooperated on submarine capabilities, but this is the first time they have worked together on radars.

Britain Inks $200 Million Contract with Team Tempest

  • The British Defence Ministry has signed a £250 million (U.S. $199 million) deal with Team Tempest, a group of companies working on the country's future combat jet, to provide digital and physical infrastructure to develop the aircraft.
  • The latest contract is part of the government's investment of more than £2 billion on the project, which will be spread out over the next four years.

F-35B Jets Take Off at Sea for Australian Exercise Talisman Sabre

  • U.S. Marine Corps F-35B jets are carrying out high-end integrated air warfare training with Australian counterparts in the skies above the country and the Coral Sea, as both nations hold a massive multi domain exercise.
  • The F-35Bs have not previously participated in the exercise Talisman Sabre, which is held once every two years. This year's exercise saw Canada, Japan and South Korea each send a ship to participate, while Japan and the United Kingdom each sent a small contingent of ground troops, joining forces from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

IAF Formally Inducts Rafale into 101 Squadron of Eastern Air Command

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) formally inducted the Rafale aircraft into its 101 Squadron of the Eastern Air Command in the presence of Air Chief Marshal R. K. S Bhadauria at the Hasimara Air Force Station in West Bengal.
  • The 101 Squadron is the second IAF squadron to be equipped with the Rafale fighter jets. In September last year, the Rafale aircraft were inducted into the 17 "Golden Arrows" Squadron.
  • The induction event included a fly-past heralding the arrival of the Rafale aircraft at Hasimara, followed by a traditional water-cannon salute,
  • India has so far received 26 of the 36 Rafale aircraft from French firm Dassault Aviation.

India, Russia to Hold 13-day Mega Military Exercise in Volgograd

  • India and Russia will carry out a 13-day mega military exercise with a focus on counter-terror operations in the Russian city of Volgograd from August 1. The 12th edition of the "INDRA" exercise will be yet another "milestone" in strengthening the bilateral security cooperation and will serve to reinforce the longstanding bond of friendship between India and Russia.
  • As per reports, 250 personnel from each side will participate in the 12th edition of the joint military exercise.
  • Volgograd is a major Russian city situated on the western bank of the Volga River.

Indian Navy Participates in Exercise Cutlass Express

  • In the maritime Exercise Cutlass Express 2021, INS Talwar is participating. This naval exercise is being conducted from 26th July 2021 to 6th August 2021 along the Eastern Coast of Africa.
  • This maritime exercise is held annually and it is conducted to promote regional and national maritime security in the Western Indian Ocean and East Africa.
  • In exercise Cutlass Express 2021, INS Talwar is participating and this exercise is being conducted along the Eastern Coast of Africa. This exercise is being conducted to improve enforcement capacity, combined maritime law and to promote regional and national security.
  • The 2021 edition involves the participation of 12 East African countries, India, UK, US and various other international organisations such as United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR), Interpol, EUCAP Somalia and Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO). The Indian Navy is participating in a trainer role.

CRPF Signs MoU with C-DAC to Train Manpower of Force in Advanced Technologies

  • The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has signed an MoU with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing C-DAC to train the manpower of the force in advanced technologies and undertake joint projects. The MoU aims at augmenting the technical capabilities of CRPF by training its manpower in advanced areas like the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, AI, etc.
  • The agreement will also provide the expertise of C-DAC in the form of a Technology Partner and Knowledge Partner in developing various ICT solutions of CRPF. The MoU will go a long way in providing CRPF personnel with customised advanced courses aligned to the needs of the field and practical applications.

Ukrainian Navy Gets First Armed Drone from Turkey

  • According to Ukraine's Defence Ministry, the Ukrainian Navy has accepted delivery of the first Bayraktar TB2 drone from Turkish defense company Baykar.
  • After completing acceptance tests, the drone, along with mobile control terminals and spare parts, will be deployed at the Ukrainian Navy's 10th Naval Aviation Brigade in Mykolaiv.
  • Baykar announced in 2019 that it won a $69 million contract to sell six TB2 combat UAVs to Ukraine.
