Nepal, China to Announce Revised Height of Mt. Everest

Nepal and China will jointly announce the revised height of Mt Everest, the world's highest peak, probably during the upcoming visit of the Chinese Defence Minister to the Himalayan nation.
The Nepal government aimed to measure the exact height of the mountain amid debates that there might have been a change in its height due to various reasons, including the devastating earthquake of 2015.
- According to the measurement done in 1954 by Survey of India, the height of Mt. Everest is 8,848 metres.
- In 1975, Chinese surveyors measured Mt. Everest as 8,848.13 metres above sea level. A survey in 2005 found the summit's rock height at 8,844.43 metres.

India to Achieve Target of Reducing 35 pc Emissions Intensity before 2030

According to Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, India will achieve its target of reducing 35 per cent emissions intensity of its GDP well before the year 2030. The minister made the remarks while signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Finland to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of environment protection and biodiversity conservation.
The MoU was signed virtually by Javadekar and Finland's Environment Minister Krista Mikkonen.
India has achieved its voluntary target of reducing emissions intensity of its GDP by 21 per cent over 2005 levels by 2020.
Emission intensity is the volume of emissions per unit of GDP.

Antrim Dinosaur Bones Belong to Different Species

The only dinosaur bones ever found in Ireland have been confirmed to belong to two different species.
The bones were previously discovered on the east coast of County Antrim.
But a new scientific study from the universities of Portsmouth and Queen's in Belfast has confirmed the origins of the bones for the first time.
One is part of the lower leg bone of a carnivore similar to Sarcosaurus; the other is from the upper leg bone of a Scelidosaurus, a four-legged herbivore.
The two fossil bones, confirmed to be from early Jurassic rocks, were discovered in Islandmagee during two separate finds in the late 19th Century and the 1980s.

Drying Habitat Makes Australia's Platypus Vulnerable

Australian scientists pushed to list the platypus as a vulnerable species after a report showed the habitat of the semi-aquatic native mammal had shrunk more than a fifth in the last 30 years.
Severe drought brought by climate change, land clearing for farming and dam-building are to blame.
According to Richard Kingsford, director of the university's Centre for Ecosystem Science, there is a real concern that platypus populations will disappear from some of our rivers without returning, if rivers keep degrading with droughts and dams.
The animals, unique to Australia, cannot live outside water, and as the continent dries further and people draw more water from rivers, some permanent pools could get even smaller.

India to Soon Launch Deep Sea

According to a top official of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, India will soon launch an ambitious 'Deep Ocean Mission' that envisages the exploration of minerals, energy and marine diversity of the underwater world, a vast part of which still remains unexplored.
The required approvals are being obtained for the futuristic and game-changing mission.
The mission is expected to cost over Rs. 4,000 crore, will give a boost to efforts to explore India's vast Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf.
