Muharram Observed In Various Parts Of Country

  •  The Ashoora-e-Muharram was observed with due reverence and solemnity in various parts of the country on 10 September, 2019.
  • The day marks the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, who laid down their lives for upholding truth, righteousness and justice in Karbala.
  • Tazia processions were taken out to mark the occasion which were buried later in the evening at designated places.
  • Majlis or religious meetings were also organized where religious scholars highlighted various aspects of the Karbala incident.
  • In Uttar Pradesh, millions of Muslims mourned in various cities on the day of Ashoora to pay homage to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala.

UNESCO, Rajasthan Govt Join Hands To Promote State's Intangible Cultural Heritage

  •  UNESCO and the Rajasthan government joined hands to promote music, art and craft forms, and other intangible cultural heritage of the state to spur socio-economic growth of several artist communities.
  • The project, which will run for around three-and-a-half years, will be implemented in Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer and Bikaner districts.
  • UNESCO India and the Rajasthan government's tourism department signed a partnership agreement to promote community-based responsible tourism based on the rich intangible cultural heritage of the state.
  • The project will focus on cultural heritage and traditions, such as pottery, weaving and other crafts, as well as music traditions, in order to create community-led and community-benefitting tourism opportunities.

Culture Ministry Launches Science Museum Vans For 'Aspirational Districts'

  •  Aiming to take science education to students in areas without access to such services, the Union Culture Ministry rolled out 25 new mobile science museums, including one for Ladakh.
  • Union Culture and Tourism Minister of State (independent charge) Prahlad Singh Patel flagged off the science museum bus in Leh as a part of the mobile science exhibition programme of the Ministry. These museums-on-wheels will travel to schools in the 115 "aspirational districts", as named by the Centre.
  • Speaking at the launch in Leh, Mr. Patel said the programme has been successful in supplementing formal education and creating scientific awareness since its inception in 1965. Till now, the programme had 23 such buses or vans.

Kartarpur Corridor: India, Pakistan Agree On Visa-Free Travel Of Indian Pilgrims To Gurdwara

  •  India and Pakistan reached an understanding on visa-free travel of Indian pilgrims based on their faith but no formal agreement could be signed.
  • However, owing to certain differences on a few key issues, an agreement could not be finalised.
  • Pakistan has insisted on charging a service fee for allowing pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, which is not agreeable in the spirit of smooth and easy access through the corridor.
  • Pakistan has also shown its unwillingness to allow the presence of Indian consular or protocol officials at the gurdwara premises. Pakistan side has been urged to reconsider its position.
  • The third round of talks on the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor was held at Attari checkpoint in Punjab.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Pakistani delegation led by Director General (South Asia and SAARC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The corridor will be operational throughout the year, seven days a week. An understanding was reached and pilgrims will have a choice to visit as individuals or in groups, and on foot.

Vaishno Devi Shrine Adjudged As Best Swachh Iconic Place In India

  •  Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir has been adjudged as the 'Best Swachh Iconic place' in the country in the 'Swachh Iconic Places' list released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • The shrine has been adjudged on the basis of the overall improvement in sanitation. Several initiatives were taken in the last few years to ensure the cleanliness of the entire Shrine area.
  • The initiatives of water kiosks, reverse vending machines, equid dung management centre, installation of kill waste machine, collection, transportation, and disposal of waste along with regular mopping up of waste though a workforce of 1300 sanitation workers (Shrine cadre and outsourced) have enabled the shrine to achieve the top rank.
  • The shrine was in direct competition with dozen other iconic places including Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Maharashtra), Taj Mahal (Uttar Pradesh), Tirupati Temple (Andhra Pradesh) Golden Temple (Punjab) Manikarnika Ghat (Varanasi), Ajmer Sharif Dargah (Rajasthan) among others.

Mahakaleshwar Temple In Ujjain To Be Developed On Lines Of Kashi Vishwanath Temple

  •  In Madhya Pradesh, Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain will be developed on the lines of the ongoing development works at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
  • Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirlingams, which are said to be the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva.
  • A plan of Rs 300 crore has been prepared for this proposed development of Mahakal temple.
  • A high-level committee of three ministers has also been formed to plan the development.
  • The development and expansion plans of Mahakal temple mainly include increasing the facilities for devotees, Mahakal theme park, Mahakal corridor, Kumbh Museum, display of various stories related to Mahakal, Revival of Rudra Sagar Lake, Tourism Information Centre and other facilities for the betterment of Ujjain.Sanjeev Sharma, AIR News, Bhopal.

PM Modi inaugurates Garvi Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi

  •  Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Garvi Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi. The new building situated at Akbar Road in the national capital has been built at a cost of around 131 crore rupees by the Gujarat Government.
  • The Bhavan is equipped with traditional and modern artefacts and technologies and will serve as a home for Gujaratis in the national capital. It will represent the culture, craft and cuisine of Gujarat. Later addressing a gathering at Vigyan Bhawan, the Prime Minister listed out series of measures taken by the Gujarat Government for the development of the state. 
  • He said, Gujarat has always attached importance to development and it has moved forward  in this direction in the last five years. He said, Gujarat is doing well in terms of water harvesting and providing piped drinking water. Mr. Modi expressed confidence that every household will get piped drinking water by 2024. 
  • The Prime Minister also talked about preservation and promotion of culture and tradition of different states. He said, the cultural, social and economic strength of different states of India makes the country stronger and  there is a need to recognize such strength. 
  • Mr. Modi said, every state Bhawan in the national capital should be the centre to promote culture and tradition of that  state as well as trade and  tourism. On the occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel and others were present.
