Emirates Post Issues Commemorative Stamp On Al Quds - Capital of Palestine

  •  Emirates Post, in association with Arab Postal Authorities, has issued a unified commemorative stamp entitled 'Al Quds - Capital of Palestine', to support Al Quds' cause and to protect its Arabian heritage, as well as serve a reminder of the emotional and cultural importance the city holds in the eyes of every Arab.
  • The Emirates News Agency reported that during a meeting in March 2018 in Muscat, Oman, the Arab Permanent Postal Committee agreed to issue a unified commemorative stamp entitled 'Al Quds - Capital of Palestine' in every Arab country, based on a favourable unilateral vote by all member states in response to Palestine's request.
  • The distinguished stamp design highlights the features of the Al Aqsa Mosque and the flag of Palestine. The design also shows a white dove symbolising peace.

NDRF To Train Unit To Save Heritage Structures

  •  The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will soon come up with a specialized unit in each battalion to help preserve monuments and other heritage structures battered by disasters, apart from its basic responsibility of rescue and restoration.
  • There will be a set of personnel in each battalion of NDRF who will get the basic training on preserving monuments. These personnel will have some sort of insights as to how to preserve heritage structures in the pre and post disaster scenario.

50th International Film Festival of India Opens On November 20 In Goa

  • The 50th International Film Festival of India opens on 20th November, 2019 in Goa. The festival caters to over twelve thousand delegates. There is an Open Air Screening section where one can enjoy some of the blockbusters free.
  • The theme of the Open Air Screenings in the Golden Jubilee year is 'The Joy of Cinema'. 14 films including classics as well as comedies along with the movies from the related genres will be screened in this section.
  • Kishore Kumar's all-time hit, Padosan along with Chalti ka Naam Gaadi, lead the pack of movies.

Golden Jubilee Audio-Visual Anthem Released for IFFI

  •  Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare released Golden Jubilee audio-visual anthem for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from 20th to 28th November, 2019.
  • The motivational anthem features clips from festival films which have had a positive social impact.
  • Over 50 films feature in the clip, which are arranged along with the scheme of 9 Rasas. A radio jingle was also released to mark IFFI Golden Jubilee celebration.

India's First Elephant Memorial Comes Up In Mathura

  •  Agra In a unique and heartfelt tribute to honour elephants that lost their lives to illegal trafficking, abuse and cruelty, India-based conservation charity Wildlife SOS unveiled the country's first elephant memorial in Mathura . 
  • The memorial, 20 miles from Taj Mahal, was inaugurated by additional principal chief conservator of forests, UP K Praveen Rao. 
  • The memorial consists of five boulders, each with engraved plaques to commemorate the spirit of the departed elephants, who died while overcoming their physical ailments and psychological wounds sustained through the brutal "breaking" and training process and in captivity. 

Suranga Bawadi on World Monument Watch list

  •  Suranga Bawadi, an integral part of the ancient Karez system of supplying water through subterranean tunnels built during Adil Shahi era in Vijayapura, is now set to get funding for restoration. A New York-based non-governmental organisation has included it in the World Monument Watch list for 2020 along with 24 other monuments from across the world.
  • The monument has been selected under the 'Ancient Water System of the Deccan Plateau' by World Monuments Fund [the NGO], which monitors restoration of ancient monuments across the globe.
  • With this, the Suranga Bawadi is expected to get funds for restoration within the next two years.
  • The NGO would also coordinate with the authorities concerned for restoration and creat public awareness on its importance.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2019

  •  Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the first Guru of 10 Sikh Gurus and is the founder of the Sikhism religion.
  • Guru Nanak Jayanti is also known as Guru Parv, Gurupurab or Guru Prakash Parv. According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on a full moon day in the month of Kartik Puranmashi.
  • And according to the Gregorian calendar, it falls in the month of October and November.
  • This festival is not only celebrated in India with full enthusiasm but also in various parts of the world. This year it falls on 12 November 2019.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Inaugurates Lavi Fair In Shimla

  •  Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated the four-day-long International Lavi fair in Shimla district''s Rampur.
  • On this occasion, he appealed to the people to contribute towards making the state free from drugs. He said that a massive campaign should be launched to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society to save the younger generation from its ill effects. 
  • The governor also inaugurated the ''Kinnauri market'' and an exhibition organised by various government departments and other organisations.

Guru Nanak's 550th Birth Anniv Festivities

  •  The stage is set for grand celebrations marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Prabhat pheris, langar programmes, kirtans are being organised by most gurdwaras.
  • This year is a double celebration since Guru Nanak's 550th anniversary coincides with the opening of the Kartarpur corridor. It was in Kartarpur that the Guru spent the last 18 years of his life.

Eid Celebrations

  •  Prayers and massive processions marked Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi or Prophet Muhammad's birthday celebrations on 10th November 2019. 
  • A day after the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya land dispute, the Eid-e-Milad passed off peacefully amid tight police security.
  • The historic Khilafat House in Byculla celebrated centenary of the Eid-e-Milad procession and the Khilafat Movement with customary fervour. Human rights activist Swami Agnivesh, who led this year's function at Khilafat House and also the procession from Khilafat House to Crawford Market, called upon Muslims to uphold the values Prophet Muhammad lived for.
