Second Double-Decker Uday Express Launched

  •  The first Uday or Utkrisht double-decker Yatri Express was a specially-designed air-conditioned chair car which started service between Coimbatore and Bangalore in June 2018. 
  • Railways' second double-decker Uday Express will run between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada to cater to the busy route in the East Coast Railway zone. 
  • The trains are primarily allocated to routes with heavy passenger traffic. They are equipped with WiFi facility, have striking interiors, cushioned seating, and display screens. 
  • Another Uday Express is proposed between Bangalore City and Chennai Central. 
  • The train consists of nine double-decker coaches and two power cars.

World's First Tourist Spaceport Unveiled

  •  Spaceport America is no longer just a shiny shell of hope that space tourism would one day launch from this remote spot in the New Mexico desert.
  • The interior spaces unveiled with an aim to connect paying customers with every aspect of the operation, providing views of the hangar and the space vehicles as well as the banks of monitors inside mission control.
  • Two levels within the spaceport include mission control, a preparation area for pilots and a lounge for customers and their friends and families, with each element of the fit and finish paying homage to either the desert landscape that surrounds the futuristic outpost or the promise of traveling to the edge of space.
  • From hotel rooms to aircraft cabins, the Virgin brand touts its designs for their focus on the customer experience.
  • A social hub includes an interactive digital walkway and a coffee bar made of Italian marble. On the upper deck, shades of white and gray speak to Virgin Galactic's more lofty mission.

Indians Spend Record Forex On Int'l Travel

  •  Indians spent $596 million on foreign travel in June, 2019. 
  • This accounted for 42% of the retail foreign exchange purchased by Indian individuals.
  •  In the first quarter of FY20, international travel cost the country $1,594 billion (38%) of the total $4,181 billion in forex purchased by individuals. 
  • The second-highest category has been education. In April-June 2018, travel accounted for $1 billion out of a total spend of $3 billion.

Trekking Route In Corbett Used By PM, Grylls To Become Tourist Draw

  •  The Uttarakhand tourism department will develop the trekking route used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Man Vs Wild host Bear Grylls, as the Modi Trail, in an attempt to attract more tourists.
  • The trekking route was used by the duo during the shoot of an episode of Discovery channel's popular TV show Man Vs Wild.
  • The trail inside the Jim Corbett National Park will be developed as Modi Trail. It will be publicised as a separate identity in the famous national park.
  • The reserve has over 250 tigers, more than half the 442 big cats in the state according to the latest tiger count.

Changes In Visa Structure, Geo-Parks On Anvil

  •  Minister of state (Independent Charge) of the ministries of culture and tourism Prahlad Patel tells that among the changes the ministry is working on are format changes in the visa structure, trainings of drivers and tour operators to ensure the safety of women tourists, and building geo-parks to display geological heritage sites and attract tourists.
  • The ministry's ambitious plan to bring 20 million visitors to India has faced bottlenecks in the visa structure, according tor the tourism industry. 
  • In the last five years, the Centre has brought in a great reform in the form of e-visas. 
  • The ministry is working on training drivers and tour operators, affiliated to the ministry, in handling women tourists. 
  • Only after a basic training is complete will the ministry hand licenses to them. The process of making say a 500 metre or 1 kilometre radius area around any of the major tourist attractions, such as the Taj Mahal a crime-free zone, is also being  considered.

Open-Deck Buses To Be Added To HoHo Service

  •  The Delhi government wants to replace its struggling Hop-on Hop-off (HoHo) tourist bus service with a revamped system by purchasing 25 new buses with partially open decks along with the addition of new routes and reduction in the price of the service to under Rs. 200 — less than half the current fare.
  • The new service, likely to be started by the end of 2019, will also introduce inter-change stations in order to provide a flexible public transport network for tourists visiting different sites across the Capital.
