Lemon Tree Hotels acquires Berggruen Hotels and the brand 'Keys Hotels'

Lemon Tree Hotels acquired Berggruen Hotels in November 2019 taking its total inventory to 7,800 rooms in 77 hotels across 45 destinations, making it India's largest hotel chain in the mid-priced hotel sector.
Keys Hotels are present in 16 cities including Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Goa, Gurugram, Kochi, Kolhapur, Ludhiana, Mahabaleshwar, Manali, Mumbai, Pune, Port Blair, Trivandrum and Vishakapatnam. Of these, Lemon Tree already has a presence in 7 destinations and these Keys Hotels add to the depth of coverage in those cities.

Indian Railways launches 3 online applications for all-India rollout to strengthen IT enablement

Indian Railways has launched three applications for all-India roll out to strengthen its IT-enabled services which will help ensure proper monitoring of projects being undertaken by Railways.
The applications, namely CRS Sanction Management System, Rail-road crossing GAD approval system and TMS for construction aim at beefing up IT-enabled services.
The CRS Sanction Management System is an important aspect in construction, maintenance and up-gradation of railway assets, whereas Rail-road crossing GAD approval system will expedite preparation, processing and approval of general agreement drawings related to the construction of Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges.
Application TMS for construction has been developed for new assets being constructed by the construction organization.

Ban On 'No Entry' Board In Kitchens Of Gujarat's Restaurants, Hotels

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that there will be a ban on putting 'no entry' board in front of the kitchens of pocket-friendly restaurants to 7-star hotels in the state.
The decision taken under the Food and Drug Act stated that any customer who entered the restaurant or hotel to enjoy delicacies is eligible to visit kitchen premises and can check the food being prepared there.
As per the order, the Chief Minister has directed the eateries to install a transparent glass to maintain transparency and customers can have a look at the quality of food.

Western Railway Introduces 'Uttam Rake' With Improved Facilities

Indian Railways' Western Railway Zone has introduced state of the art 'Uttam Rake' for the local trains in Mumbai.
The newly introduced rake has improved interiors and advanced features to make traveling in local a better experience for the Mumbaikars.
The new rake was operated in its inaugural run as ladies special train from Churchgate – Virar, departing from Churchgate at 18.13 hrs and arriving Virar at 19.57 hrs on 5th November, 2019
Western Railways will run its normal services from 6th November, 2019 with 10 services a day. The Uttam rake is equipped with better seats, CCTV cameras, red emergency buttons, anti-dent partitions, modular luggage racks.

This strategic partnership will allow Indian Railways to build leadership talent in a rapidly changing competitive environment.
The MoU will also facilitate research in areas of importance to the Railways and make the Railways an innovation and technology driven future-ready organisation.

India Plans To Open 100 Airports In Five Years

India is planning to open 100 additional airports by 2024, as part of a plan to revive economic growth in Asia's third-largest economy.
The proposal, which includes starting 1,000 new routes connecting smaller towns and villages, was discussed at a meeting to review infrastructure needed by 2025. Steps to start a plane-lease financing business in the country were also discussed.

Gatwick Trial Cuts Plane Boarding Time By 10%

The frustration of waiting for someone to put their bag in an overhead locker may soon be over if a trial to get people on planes quicker is successful.
Gatwick says it is working with EasyJet to try out new ways to board passengers at the London airport.
They include boarding people in window seats first, starting at the back, followed by middle then aisle seats.
Gatwick said different boarding methods could reduce the journey from airport gate to seat by about 10%.
The airport operator says that the window-to-aisle seat pattern of boarding is best suited for individuals and business passengers.

IRCTC Introduces OTP-Based Refund System For Booking Through Travel Agents

Railway passengers who book their train tickets through travel agents, but end up cancelling the tickets, or cannot travel as the ticket continues to be on the waitlist, can now get a text message directly from IRCTC, regarding the exact refund amount that they are supposed to get from it.
To enable this, the passenger is required to provide the number to the IRCTC authorised agent at the time of booking e-ticket.
Under this new process, whenever a ticket booked through the authorised IRCTC agent is cancelled by the customer or a fully waitlisted ticket, IRCTC will send a one time password (OTP) through SMS to the passenger's mobile number.
The passenger is supposed to share the OTP to the ticket booking agent, as the ticket booking agent can claim the refund amount only after he shares the OTP.

Australia's 'Backpacker Tax' Ruled Invalid By Court

Australia has used a so-called "backpacker tax" to illegally tax foreign workers from eight countries, according to a landmark ruling.
In 2017, the government imposed a controversial 15% tax rate on two visa categories for working holiday-makers.
But a court found the levy was in breach of existing treaties with the UK, US, Germany, Finland, Chile, Japan, Norway and Turkey.
About 150,000 foreigners travel to Australia every year on working holiday visas, with many finding work in the farming and hospitality industries.
