Room ACs to have default temperature setting of 24 degrees celsius from Jan 1

The Centre has made mandatory the default temperature settings for room air conditioners, of all makes and types, from January 1, which had been formed after consulting with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
"The Centre in consultation with BEE had notified new energy performance standards for Room Air Conditioner (RACs) on October 30, 2019. The 24 degree Celsius default setting has been made mandatory from January 1, 2020 for all room air conditioners covered under the ambit of BEE star-labelling program vide this notification," according to a press release by PIB.
"Additionally, the Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ISEER) as per the new standards will range from (3.30 - 5.00) for split and (2.70 - 3.50) for window air conditioners, which will be applicable from 1st January 2021 onwards," the release added.

Navigation facilities for visually impaired inaugurated at Chandigarh railway station

Navigation facilities for visually impaired were inaugurated at Chandigarh railway station in Punjab. This facility has been introduced by the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation through NGO 'Anuprayaas'. Chandigarh is fifth Railway station in the country and first in North India to have this facility.
This step will help visually impaired passengers to know about the passenger amenities at the Chandigarh Railway Station. In addition to Braille Tactile Map, signages are also installed for all the facilities and offices in the premise like Enquiry, Station Manager, waiting rooms, lifts, and toilets etc.
Visually impaired people can identify these facilities independently. With this, the common challenges faced by the visually impaired people at railway stations like missing trains because of wrong guidance will be minimized and they will be empowered to travel independently.

Hotels and Restaurants to be Audited

The Delhi government and the municipal corporations have been ordered to carry out an audit at all hotels and restaurants in the capital to check how accessible they are to persons with disabilities. Besides infrastructure such as ramps and lifts, hotels and restaurants are also required to have special menus printed in large fonts and Braille.
The audit has been ordered by the Delhi state commissioner for persons with disabilities, a quasi-judicial body.
In Delhi, there are more than 400 hotels and restaurants that are associated with the Federation of Hotels and Restaurants Association of India.

Jammu Kashmir to Become Adventure Sports Tourism Hub

K. K. Sharma, advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor, efforts are underway to promote adventure sports and tourism in a big way to make Jammu and Kashmir one of the most sought-after destinations globally. He also stated that the Union Territory is replete with topographical and geographical features that are necessary for promoting adventure sports, tourism and the requisite mechanism has been put in place for roping in major international players. It will ensure that Jammu and Kashmir emerges as one of the most sought-after destinations in this category, which would in turn give the tourist industry a much needed boost and fillip.

South African Tourism's 17th Annual Roadshow

South African Tourism is all set to mark the beginning of 2020 with their biggest, independent trade initiative in India – their annual Roadshow. The 17th edition of the Roadshow will travel to the 3 Indian cities of Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai on 13th, 14th and 15th January 2020, respectively.
Capitalizing on the massive growth potential offered by the Indian outbound traveller segment, the 48 member South African trade delegation will take the opportunity to educate and enable Indian trade
partners to sell the destination better. In addition to experiences, representatives from accommodation
establishments, destination management companies, airlines, tourism associations will display their
products and engage Indian travel and trade associates.

Braille Menus to be a Part of Restaurants and Hotels

In a bid to make the hotels and restaurants more inclusive, Delhi hotels and restaurants will soon be coming up with menus designed in Braille script for the visually impaired. The move comes in the wake of recent order passed by The Delhi State Commissioner of Person with Disabilities (PWD), who made it mandatory for almost 400 restaurants and hotels to have their menus printed in Braille for the ease of visually impaired guests.
In terms of execution of this new development, commissioner, TD Dhariyal instructed the members of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) to implement the order given by the court.
The order also highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism should put together the relevant provisions/requirements/measurement and designs for various facilities in the hotels and restaurants irrespective of their category in a smaller booklet by extracting the same from the Harmonised Guidelines. Besides, it also stated that the smaller booklet should be uploaded in the website of Ministry of Tourism, FHRAI and each hotel and restaurant and appropriate directives should be issued to every hotel and restaurant owner to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act.
