Hundred New Sainik Schools to Provide Opportunity to Girl Students to Join Armed Forces
According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the government's decision to set up 100 new Sainik schools will provide an opportunity for girl students to join the armed forces and contribute to national security.
Singh said that the government is for increasing the role of women in the armed forces and a series of steps have been taken in that direction, including clearing the way for their admission in Sainik schools and providing permanent commission to women officers.
The defence minister exuded confidence that the decision to establish new Sainik schools will encourage girls to realise their dreams of serving the country.

Modi Inaugurates Second Campus of Kolkata's Cancer Institute
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second campus of the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute in Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the inauguration virtually.
The new campus is equipped with modern facilities such as nuclear medicine (PET), 3.0 Tesla MRI, 128 slice CT scanner, Radionuclide therapy unit, endoscopy suite, and modern brachytherapy units among others.

Professor Pradeep Kumar Mishra is New VC of AKTU
Prof. Pradeep Kumar Mishra, vice chancellor (VC) at Jharkhand University of Technology, Ranchi, was appointed the new VC of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. He will replace Prof. Vineet Kansal who was given the additional charge of vice chancellor in August last year.
Mishra was appointed VC for three years from the day he assumes office.

Design Students Develop Sustainable Packaging for Oil Created from Oil Cakes
Students of The Design Village, an industry-centric design institute based in Noida, bagged two prizes at the Biodesign Challenge Summit 2021 competing against 52 teams from 20 countries with 'SPOIL', their innovative design for sustainable packaging for oil. Not only did they turn oil into pellet form but the packaging for these pellets was also created using the oilcake that remains as a by-product after oil extraction.
The Design Village's project team and the mentors were awarded the Community Choice Prize and the Outstanding Instructors prize respectively. They were the first-ever Asian team to win an award at this summit.
The student team comprising Tanish Agrawal, Arshad Bajil Kuttasseri, Natasha Singh, Kunika Sharma participated in the biodesign challenge under the guidance of Anusha Dhawan, Sneha Ravishankar.

Gujarat to Host International Education Conference
A two-day international conference of academic institutions will be organised on January 5-6 in the run-up to the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, with a focus on the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.
The conference will aim to "effectively clarify the way to strengthen the relationship of industries, academia and students by explaining the roadmap for National Education Policy, 2020.
The conference will be held at Science City in Ahmedabad. Around 120 panel speakers, including 40 from abroad, will share their experiences across 21 different sessions.
Australia, Canada, Norway, UK and France will join as partner countries for the international conference. The British Council, the Australia India Business Exchange, Institute of International Education etc have joined as international participants.
Pradhan Launches NEAT 3.0 to Provide Best-developed ed-tech Solutions
Union Education Minister and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) 3.0, a single platform to provide the best-developed ed-tech solutions and courses to students of the country.
The minister also launched AICTE prescribed technical books in regional languages.
NEAT will be a game-changer in bridging the digital divide, especially among the economically disadvantaged students and also in fulfilling the knowledge-based requirement of India and the world.
National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) is an initiative to provide the use of best-developed technological solutions in the education sector to enhance the employability of the youth on a single platform for learners' convenience.
These solutions use artificial intelligence for a personalised and customised learning experience for better learning outcomes and skill development in the niche areas.
