IIT Madras Partners with Walmart Global Tech to Accelerate Research and Skilling

  • The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) partnered with Walmart Global Tech (WGT) to accelerate research in new areas of technology, provide Walmart associates with continuing education and collaborate on projects for Corporate Social Responsibility for their India operations.
  • The MoU was signed at an event in Chennai in the presence of Suresh Kumar, Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Development Officer (CDO), Walmart Inc., (and alumnus of IITM), Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean - Alumni and Corporate Relations, IITM and the U.S. Consul General in Chennai, Ms. Judith Ravin.
  • WGT will use space in the IIT Madras Research Park to leverage the broader ecosystem and work with the start-up companies incubated by the IIT Madras Incubation Cell.
  • WGT will also have access to several short and long-term education and training programs to upskill talent and fit the changing needs of the retail and eCommerce industry.

IIT Roorkee Felicitates Prof. Arun Kumar with HRED Hydro & Renewable Energy Award

  • Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), honored Prof. Arun Kumar, Hydro and Renewable Energy, IIT Roorkee, at HRED auditorium, IIT Roorkee. The award recognizes and celebrates the contribution of researchers who are working in the subject covering hydro resource assessment, optimization, integration, new technology development, among others.
  • Prof. Arun Kumar is currently working as Professor of HRED, IIT Roorkee, NEEPCO Chair Professor, and board member of the International Hydropower Association. He has been the founding scientist of HRED and has served as its head from 1998 to 2011.

Cabinet Approves WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the establishment of a WHO (World Health Organization) Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM) at Jamnagar in Gujarat. An agreement was signed by the Government of India with the world body in this regard.
  • The WHO GCTM, to be established under the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy), will be the first and only global out posted centre (office) for traditional medicines.
  • The move would help develop norms, standards, and guidelines in relevant technical areas, tools and methodologies for collecting data undertaking analytics, and assess impact.

University of East Anglia Announces Scholarships for Indian Students

  • The University of East Anglia (UEA) announced six new scholarships for India, offered by various departments at the university. The sponsorships would be provided to students applying to masters courses in the academic year 2022-2023.
  • The deadline for the scholarships is May 31, 2022.
  • The UEA India award is available to Indian students applying for post-graduate studies at the UEA. This scholarship worth £4,000 will be automatically awarded to those meeting the entry criteria.

NEET UG Exam: Upper Age Limit Removed by National Medical Commission

  • The National Medical Commission removed the upper age limit for those appearing in NEET-Under Graduate 2022 exam.
  • The upper age cap put by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2017 was 25 years for unreserved candidates and 30 years for reserved candidates.
  • The age criteria had often been questioned in the Supreme Court and High Courts of the country.
  • With the age limit criteria removed, aspirants can now appear in the medical entrance exam as many times and even after taking admission to other courses.

India's First 100% Women-owned Industrial Park Begins Operations in Hyderabad

  • India's first 100 per cent women-owned industrial park began operations in Hyderabad, Telangana. Promoted by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in partnership with the State government, the park has 25 units, representing 16 diverse green category industries, all owned and operated by women.
  • The FLO industrial park, the first-of-its-kind park in the country, was established over 50 acres in Sultanpur near Patancheru with an investment of Rs. 250 crore. The park has already garnered tremendous interest from women entrepreneurs to run and operate their businesses.
  • The park has also created amenities to offer a homely environment for women by keeping in mind the necessities of working women entrepreneurs, including designing creches and playschools. The FLO also plans to set up similar multi-industry women industrial parks in various States and a centre of excellence for skill development in Phase II.
