Prof. Nilofar Khan Appointed as First Woman V-C of Kashmir University

Professor Nilofar Khan, who has 30 years of teaching experience,was appointed as the first woman vice-chancellor of the University of Kashmir. The order of appointment was issued by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha in his capacity of being the chancellor of the university. She replaced Professor Talat Ahmad, who completed his second tenure as the V-C of the university which began in August 2018.
Professor Khan, who had the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as Dean Student Welfare at the university, was appointed as vice-chancellor for a three-year term.

Monkeypox Spreads to more European Countries, Australia, Canada

Italy, Sweden, Australia and Canada have joined a slew of countries with confirmed cases of monkeypox, signalling a global outbreak. Health officials in Australia have confirmed a case in Victoria and another likely case in New South Wales (NSW). According to Victoria's Department of Health, a man, in his 30s, fell ill after returning from travel to the UK. He remains in isolation at The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition with mild symptoms.
NSW Health has also detected a possible case of monkeypox in a man in his 40s who recently returned from Europe. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) had also confirmed two cases of monkeypox in Quebec. Health authorities are investigating about 17 people for potential cases of the virus.

US Reports First Case of Monkeypox

Massachusetts reported a rare case of monkeypox in a man who recently travelled to Canada, and health officials are looking into whether it is connected to small outbreaks in Europe. Monkeypox is typically limited to Africa, and rare cases in the US and elsewhere are usually linked to travel there. A small number of confirmed or suspected cases have been reported in the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Spain.
Monkeypox typically begins with a flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes, followed by a rash on the face and body. In Africa, people have been infected through bites from rodents or small animals, and it does not usually spread easily among people.
Monkeypox comes from the same family of viruses as smallpox. Most people recover from monkeypox within weeks, but the disease is fatal for up to 1 in 10 people.

Nidhi Chibber Appointed CBSE Chairperson

Senior IAS officer Nidhi Chibber was appointed as the chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre. Chibber, a 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, is currently Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries. She was appointed as chairperson, CBSE in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the government of India.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Government of India. Established in 1929 by a resolution of the government, the Board was indeed a bold experiment toward inter-state integration and cooperation in the sphere of secondary education. There are approximately 26,054 schools in India and 240 schools in 28 foreign countries affiliated to the CBSE.

Monkey Pox Case in UK

The U.K. health authorities confirmed a case of monkey pox, which is a virus passed from infected animals such as rodents to humans, in someone with a recent travel history to Nigeria where they are believed to have caught it. Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not spread easily between people and is usually a mild "self-limiting illness" and most people recover within a few weeks. However, severe illness can occur in some cases.
Initial symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion. A rash can develop, often beginning on the face, then spreading to other parts of the body. The rash changes and goes through different stages before finally forming a scab, which later falls off.
