DU, Ambedkar University Sign MoU to Work in Emerging Areas Like AI

  • The Delhi University and the B. R. Ambedkar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work in emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on social sciences.
  • The MoU will provide an opportunity towards optimum utilisation of resources like libraries, research laboratories, auditoriums, and sports grounds among other facilities of the two varsities.
  • It marked a significant collaboration between the Delhi government's Ambedkar University and the Delhi University, a central university.
  • The Ambedkar University is committed to academic collaboration and partnerships with other educational institutions in an effort towards becoming Multidisciplinary Education Research University (MERU), in alignment with the aims and objectives of National Education Policy 2020.

Private School in Surat Converts School Bus into Mobile Classroom

  • In a unique initiative, a private school in Surat, Gujarat, converted a school bus into a fully functional portable classroom. This innovative project aims to provide education to underprivileged children who often lack access to formal schooling.
  • The moving school, named Pramukh Swami Smriti Vidya Mandir, was inaugurated by Minister of State for Education Prafulla Panseria.
  • Mahesh Bhai Patel, the visionary behind the moving school, initiated this project to commemorate the birth centenary of Pramukh Swami. With an expenditure of Rs. 8.65 lakh, Patel transformed the bus into a classroom-like environment suitable for young students.

Haryana to Upgrade 137 Govt Schools to Senior Secondary

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that those secondary schools in villages, which had 100 students in classes 9 and 10 last year, would be upgraded to class 12. As many as 137 such schools across the state would be upgraded to senior secondary schools.
  • The Chief Minister said that the state government has decided to make provision of a senior secondary school within a radius of five kilometres in a bid to provide relief to students from travelling long distances for education.

Meghalaya has Highest Number of Schools and Teachers in Northeast India

  • Meghalaya boasts a remarkable achievement in its education sector with an impressive number of schools and teachers. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma revealed that the state is home to nearly 14,000 schools and employs over 55,000 teachers, surpassing other small states in Northeast India.
  • To address the challenges and enhance the education sector in the state, Chief Minister Sangma announced the establishment of an Education Commission.
  • This commission will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects related to education and propose strategies for improvement.

Online Education Program 'Pahal' for Rural Children

  • The online rural education programme 'Pahal' was launched by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra at Government UP Sainik Inter College in Sarojini Nagar. This program, developed through a partnership between the Department of Secondary Education and IIT Kanpur, aims to provide education to rural communities through online platforms.
  • Under this programme, free online education will be provided at 10 government secondary schools of the state in the initial phase. In his address, the chief secretary said that the online rural education 'Pahal' is a new and good beginning. Through these classes, students of rural areas will be able to get the latest information related to science and mathematics.

India, Israel to Jointly Develop Centre of Water Technology at IIT Madras

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Israel to build an 'India-Israel Centre of Water Technology' (CoWT) in Water Resources Management and Water Technologies.
  • The LoI to establish this centre was signed by Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Prof V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, and Naor Gilon, Ambassador of Israel to India in the presence of External Affairs Ministers S. Jaishankar and his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen.
  • The centre aims to build human capacity to ensure the implementation of the best technologies of Israel in a tailor-made context for the Indian requirements and pilot sustainable technologies to ensure water security for the country.

IIM Kozhikode Launches Centre for Employment Relations and Labour Studies

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode set up a think tank, Centre for Employment Relations and Labour Studies (CERLS), which would help in the transitioning of the workers and economically weaker sections from an informal to a formal economy.
  • The first conference by CERLS will take place in January 2024. The institute also plans to conduct labour conferences regularly each year.
  • The larger aim of this Centre would be to mobilize ideas from fellow academia, thought leaders, government, and corporations to prevent informalization of formal jobs while championing sustainable enterprises. Additionally, the Centre would work closely with organizations to maintain fair labor standards.

  • Shuddham is designed to be user-friendly, easy to maintain, and economical.

UGC Launches New Website, UTSAH and PoP Portals to Promote Quality Education

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a new website, the UTSAH (Undertaking Transformative Strategies and Actions in Higher Education) Portal, and the Professor of Practice (PoP) Portal to promote quality education in India. The launch of these new initiatives is a significant step by the UGC in its efforts to promote quality education in India. The new website, UTSAH Portal, and PoP Portal will provide valuable resources to students, faculty, and universities, and will help to improve the quality of higher education in India.
  • To align with the National Education Policy 2020, the UGC launched the Professor of Practice (PoP) Portal. This portal enables institutions to connect with experienced professionals in specific fields. Experts from any discipline can register on the PoP Portal, providing comprehensive information about their expertise, work experience, location, and preferred engagement type. Universities and institutions can register on the portal, post advertisements for PoP positions specifying the required domain and number of posts, and access the profiles of registered experts on the portal.
