World's Longest Detained Journalist Wins Rights Prize

A journalist detained in Eritrean prison without trial for 23 years won a Swedish human rights prize for his commitment to freedom of expression.
Dawit Isaak, who holds dual Eritrean-Swedish citizenship, was given the Edelstam Prize for his exceptional courage.
Dawit is one of the founders of Setit, Eritrea's first independent newspaper.
He was detained in 2001 after his paper published letters demanding democratic reforms.
He will be presented on November 19, in Stockholm.
Dawit's daughter, Betlehem Isaak will accept the Edelstam Prize, awarded for exceptional courage in defending human rights, on his behalf as he remains imprisoned in Eritrea.

Veteran Filmmaker Phillip Noyce Honoured with Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award

Veteran Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, renowned for his acclaimed works such as Clear and Present Danger, Salt, and Rabbit-Proof Fence, will be honoured with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The festival, which will be held in Goa from November 20-28, 2024, has Australia as its Country of Focus this year.
Philip Noyce's work has had a lasting impact on both mainstream and critical cinema, shaping suspense and action genres while contributing to cultural conversations through his films.

Ricky Kej, Anoushka Shankar, Earn Nominations for 67th Grammy Awards

Ricky Kej and Anoushka Shankar are among the Indians nominated for the 67th Grammy Awards.
Kej, a three-time Grammy winner, earned his fourth nomination for "Break of Dawn" in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category, as announced by the Recording Academy.
The category, which includes albums featuring more than 75 per cent new vocal or instrumental new age recordings, also features Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn by sitarist and composer Shankar.
Other nominees in this category are "Warriors of Light" by Radhika Vekaria and "Triveni" by entrepreneur and musician Chandrika Tandon, created in collaboration with flautist Wouter Kellerman and cellist Eru Matsumoto.
The 2025 Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place in February 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Anil Pradhan Wins Rohini Nayyar Prize

Anil Pradhan, co-founder of Young Tinker Foundation, a non-profit organisation working on hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in underserved areas, was awarded the third Rohini Nayyar Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Rural Development.
The prize has been instituted in the memory of Rohini Nayyar by her family. Nayyar, an economist, served as an IAS officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, and worked with the erstwhile Planning Commission of India from 1987 to 2005. She passed away in 2021.
The prize, comprising a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh, a citation and trophy, is given annually by the Nayyar Foundation for Social and Economic Purpose, and is meant for individuals below 40 years in age.
