Biden Awards Liz Cheney, Bennie with Presidential Citizens Medal

Former Representative Liz Cheney, who bucked her Republican Party as a strong critic of President-elect Donald Trump and some of his allies, is one of the 20 people awarded by President Joe Biden with the Presidential Citizens Medal, one of the country's highest civilian honours.
The medal is awarded to US citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.
Cheney, a one-time Republican member of Congress, served as vice chair of the House of Representatives select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Magnus Carlsen, Nepomniachtchi Share Blitz Title

Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi's decision to share the World Blitz Championship title for the first time in history sent shockwaves through the chess community, sparking widespread criticism. World number one Carlsen and Russia's Nepomniachtchi shared the Blitz title after three sudden-death games failed to produce a winner. This is the first time that the title was awarded to two players after the Norwegian asked whether it could be shared given the deadlock.

The Indian government announced the recipients of the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for 2024, honouring exceptional contributions to sports.
Manu Bhaker, Harmanpreet Singh, Praveen Kumar and D. Gukesh were the four recipients of the 2024 Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is India's highest sporting honour, awarded for the most outstanding performance in sports by an individual or team. Instituted in 1991–1992, it has recognised numerous athletes who have brought glory to the nation through their exceptional talent and dedication.

The Indian government announced the recipients of the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for 2024, honoring exceptional contributions to sports.
Manu Bhaker (Shooting): Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the first Indian athlete post-Independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Games. Despite initial controversies regarding her nomination, Bhaker's outstanding performance has been rightfully recognized.
Harmanpreet Singh (Hockey): As the captain of the Indian men's hockey team, Harmanpreet Singh led the team to a second consecutive Olympic bronze medal in Paris. His leadership and skills have been instrumental in India's consistent performance on the international stage. Praveen Kumar (Para Athletics):
Praveen Kumar clinched gold at the Paris Paralympics in the men's high jump T64 category, setting a new Asian record. His achievement has significantly contributed to India's prominence in para-athletics.
D. Gukesh (Chess): D Gukesh emerged as a formidable force in the world of chess, achieving remarkable milestones and elevating India's status in the global chess community. The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is India's highest sporting honor, awarded for the most outstanding performance in sports by an individual or team. SAIL Certified as Great Place to Work for the Second Time

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) earned the prestigious 'Great Place to Work' certification for January 2025 to January 2026, awarded by the Great Place to Work Institute, India. This marks the second consecutive certification for SAIL, having first been certified for December 2023 to December 2024.
The Great Place to Work Institute is a global organisation that recognizes employers creating outstanding employee experiences through a rigorous evaluation process. SAIL secured the certification following a comprehensive survey conducted by the Institute, based on direct feedback from employees at SAIL.

RINL Wins Gold at AP State Energy Conservation Awards 2024

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), won the prestigious Gold Award at the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Award 2024. The award presented by the State Energy Conservation Mission of Andhra Pradesh, recognised RINL's impactful initiatives in energy conservation in the iron and steel sector. This achievement highlights the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation in harnessing waste energy over the past three years.

President Confers Bal Puraskar

President Droupadi Murmu presented the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 17 children, recognising their exceptional courage and outstanding achievements across diverse fields, including art, culture, sports and innovation.
The award celebrates extraordinary accomplishments in seven categories: art and culture, bravery, innovation, science and technology, social service, sports and environment.
The honourees, seven boys and ten girls selected from 14 states and Union territories, were presented with a medal, certificate and citation booklet.
Among them was Keya Hatkar, a 14-year-old author and disability advocate, recognised for her excellence in art and culture.
The President underlined the importance of nurturing and celebrating young talents.
