Chandigarh Gets Best UT Award, Culture Honours

  • The CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd, Anindita Mitra, received the best UT award for Chandigarh in the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC), 2020, from Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, at a function in Surat. The best UT award was given on the basis of its performance in the "India Cycles4Change Challenge, Climate Smart Cities Challenge, Streets4People Challenge, TULIP and Data Smart Cities". The ISAC was organised under the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for the August 25-February 24 period.
  • The categories were "project awards, city leadership award, best state/UT award, innovation award, Covid innovation award and city award". Chandigarh participated in the competition and won the award in the culture category for its Capitol Complex project, which had been declared a heritage site by UNESCO.

Indian-American Defence Expert Vivek Lall to Receive Entrepreneur Leadership Award

  • In recognition of his contribution in the defence sector, Indian-American chief executive of General Atomics Global Corporation Vivek Lall was selected for the prestigious Entrepreneur Leadership Awards by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. Established in 1968, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) is the apex bi-lateral Chamber synergising India-US economic engagement.
  • Lall was selected for the 'Global Leader in Defence and Aviation Sector' award category.
  • Former US presidents George Bush, Jimmy Carter, Lynden Johnson, Ronald Reagan are some others that have been conferred this honour. Lall was also granted the Grand Cross by His Highness Mahmoud Salah Al Din Assaf from the Royal Order of Banu Assaf in January 2022.

Union Steel Ministry to Host National Metallurgist Award 2021 to Recognise Outstanding Contributi...

  • The Union Steel Ministry will host National Metallurgist Award 2021 in New Delhi to recognise the outstanding contribution of metallurgists and engineers in the field of iron and steel. The programme will be chaired by the Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh. The Steel Ministry has instituted the National Metallurgist Award after extensive deliberations with the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding rationalisation of the awards in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The process of submissions of applications or nominations for the National Metallurgist Award 2021 was initiated during August to September in 2021. The awards will be given under categories like Lifetime Achievement, National Metallurgist, For Research and Development in Iron and Steel Sector and Young Metallurgist.

IndusInd Bank Wins Celent Model Bank Award

  • IndusInd Bank was awarded the global 'Celent Model Bank' award under the category of 'Payments System Transformation' for building a best-in-class Enterprise Payments Hub (EPH). The award recognises the Bank's outstanding journey in creating a cloud-based central payments hub. The award is given by Celent, leading research and advisory firm focused on technology for financial institutions globally.
  • This payment hub is capable of seamlessly processing high transaction loads originating across all forms of payment instructions, and across all originating client touchpoints.

Prabhat Patnaik Named for Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022

  • Well-known Indian economist and political commentator, Prabhat Patnaik was selected for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022. The award is annually given by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust to an outstanding social scientist selected from nominations received by a specially constituted national jury. The award includes a citation and prize money of Rs. 2 lakh.
  • Dr. Patnaik has taught at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning in the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi and was the Vice Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board.

Udan Scheme Selected For Award For Excellence In Public Administration 2020

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN (UdeDeshkaAamNagrik) has been selected for Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 under the category "Innovation (General) – Central".
  • Government of India has initiated this award to acknowledge, recognize and reward extraordinary and innovative work done by Districts and Organizations of State/Government. This scheme emphasises on Good Governance, Qualitative achievements, and last mile connectivity rather than only on achievement of quantitative targets. The award consists of a trophy, scroll and an incentive of Rs 10 lakhs.
  • Launched in 2016, UDAN scheme aims to fulfil the aspirations of the common man by following the vision of UdeDeshkaAamNagrik, with an enhanced aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and III cities. In a short span of 5 years, today 415 UDAN routes connect 66 underserved/unserved airports, including heliports and water aerodromes, and over 92 lakh people have benefited from it. More than 1 lakh 79 thousand flights have flown under this scheme. UDAN scheme has immensely benefitted several sectors pan-India including Hilly States, North-Eastern region, and Islands

AIMA honours Shoojit Sircar with Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham

  • Every year, AIMA presents the Director Of The Year award, which recognises an individual "who has exemplified the spirit of filmmaking and created a masterpiece out of it". As per the description of the award, it is given to those directors "who have created a masterpiece that is pathbreaking and is worth watching over and over again".
  • In April 2022, at an award ceremony held in Delhi, Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, presented the 2021 AIMA Managing India Awards (AIMA) in multiple categories in Delhi.
  • In the films category, Shoojit Sircar was honoured with the Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham .
