Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra received the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award. The 24-year-old javelin thrower received the prestigious award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan during a ceremony. Paralympic gold medallist in badminton Pramod Bhagat was also conferred with the honour alongside Chopra.
Chopra made history at the Tokyo Olympics by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in a track and field event in the Games' history. He also became only the second Indian to win an individual Olympic gold after shooter Abhinav Bindra.
Mirabai Chanu Wins 'BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year' Award
Olympic silver medallist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award. Chanu created history in 2021 when she became the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Summer Olympics.
Young India opener Shafali Verma was awarded the The 'BBC Emerging Player' award. The first Indian woman to have won a medal at the Olympics in 2000, former weightlifter Karnam Malleswari was presented the 'BBC Lifetime Achievement' award. Olympians and the Paralympians from the Tokyo Games were also honoured in this edition of BBC ISWOTY.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands MP Wins Sansad Ratna Award
Andaman and Nicobar Islands MP Kuldeep Rai Sharma was awarded the Sansad Ratna Award 2022. The award is recognition of his hard work in his constituency. He has also worked towards the rights of children in the area. The award was given by Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sushil Chandra, in the presence of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Will Smith Wins Best Actor Trophy at Oscars
Hollywood star Will Smith ended his dry run at the Oscars as he lifted the best actor trophy for "King Richard" minutes after he punched comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.The punch will go down in the Oscars history as one of the wildest moments after the 2017's mix up when "La La Land" was mistakenly named as the best picture instead of "Moonlight".
The 53-year-old star was previously nominated in the same category twice -- "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" -- but couldn't go all the way.The actor came into Oscar night as a clear favourite, having collected trophies at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Critics' Choice Awards.
Cochin International Airport Ltd bags Covid Champion Award at Wings India
The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) won the 'Covid champion' award at Wings India 2022. The Covid champion award was received by CIAL Managing Director S. Suhas IAS from Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) won the 'Aviation Sustainability & Environment' award by Wings India Awards 2022 for its efficient green practices.

Abel prize for 2022: American Mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan
The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awarded the Abel Prize for the year 2022 to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan. The citation mentioned that the award was given, "For his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense, and in particular its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects."
Topology is a field of mathematics which was born in the nineteenth century and has to do with properties of surfaces that do not change when they are deformed. Topologically, a circle and a square are the same; similarly, surfaces of a doughnut and a coffee mug with one handle are topologically equivalent, however, the surface of a sphere and a coffee mug are not equivalent.
The Prize recognises extraordinary contributions to the sector of mathematics & is funded by the Norwegian Government & supported the recommendations of the Abel Committee, which consists of 5 internationally recognized mathematicians, the Abel Laureates is chosen.

Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Elected Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh
Biocon Ltd Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), Scotland's National Academy.
Mazumdar-Shaw, who is also the Executive Chairperson of Biocon Biologics, would be joining RSE's current fellowship of around 1,700 fellows.
The fellowship would provide Mazumdar-Shaw an opportunity to work collectively and collaboratively with some of the greatest minds to solve the pressing issues of our times through innovative solutions for the greater good of mankind.
RSE is one of the world's oldest and most respected academic societies. Fellows are elected to join the RSE from across the fields of science, arts, education, business and public life in recognition of their impact in improving the world around them.
