Bravery Award for Saving Lives

  •  A Delhi-based woman who lost her life while rescuing her friends from drowning in Australia, a boy who saved a six year-old from drowning in the Bawana canal, and a youth who rescued a child who fell in a drain in south Delhi were among the recipients of bravery awards.
  • Karan and Deepanshu received the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Nitisha Negi posthumously received the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak.
  • The Delhi government handed over the awards to Karan, Deepanshu and the relatives of Negi.

  •  Patanjali Ayurved Limited's Managing Director and a close aide of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, received the 'UNSDG 10 Most Influential People in Healthcare Award' on behalf of Patanjali Group of Institutions.

Arabic Novel Wins Man Booker International Prize

  • Celestial Bodies, a family saga set against Oman's transition from slave trading centre to oil producer, became the first novel originally written in Arabic to win the Man Booker International Prize.
  • The book's author, Jokha Alharthi of Oman, shares the award of £50,000 pounds (about $63,000) with its translator, Marilyn Booth. The prize, given each year to the best book translated into English and published in Britain, is widely seen as the world's most significant award for translated fiction.

  •  Japan bestowed 'the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star' a national award on former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Japan-India ties.

  •  The Hindu Group has bagged two prizes at the prestigious International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards.
  • Awards were given under Group 1 representing regional/local brands and Group 2 representing global/national brands.
  • In Group 2, The Hindu Group for its 'The Hindu for Client Parle' bagged the second place for 'Best Marketing Solution for an Advertising Client'.
  • The Hindu in School bagged the third place for 'Best Idea to Encourage Print Readership or Engagement'.
