World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 globally. This international day is designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. The day honours the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
This day was first observed globally on June 20, 2001, to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees.
Formerly known as Africa Refugee Day, it was changed to this day when the United Nations General Assembly declared it an international day in December 2000.
The theme for World Refugee Day 2025 'Solidarity with Refugees'—urges us to move beyond words and take meaningful steps to support those forced to flee. Refugees seek not charity, but opportunity: a chance to rebuild their lives, contribute to their communities, and live with dignity.

UN Declares December 4 as International Day Against Unilateral Coercive Measures

In a diplomatic development, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed December 4 as the International Day Against Unilateral Coercive Measures, starting in 2025. With 116 votes in favour, the resolution seeks to raise global awareness of the humanitarian and developmental consequences of unilateral economic, financial, and trade sanctions that are deemed to violate international law and the UN Charter.

Autistic Pride Day

Autistic Pride Day is observed on June 18, advocating for inclusivity, equality and respect for autistic voices.
Autistic Pride Day was first celebrated in 2005 by Aspies For Freedom (AFF), who selected 18 June because it was the birthday of the youngest member of the group at that time.

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year on June17 to raise public awareness about international efforts to tackle desertification, land degradation, and drought (DLDD).
The United Nations General Assembly established World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought in 1994. This was in response to the adoption of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2025 holds special significance as it falls at the midpoint of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030).
The theme for World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2025 is 'Restore the Land. Unlock the Opportunities.'

Global Wind Day

Global Wind Day 2025 is observed all over the world on June 15. On June 15, this day is celebrated all over the world annually and it is marked as a day of discovering the possibilities of wind power.
In 2007, The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) organised the first Wind Day.
In 2009 the EWEA joined forces with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and made it a worldwide event.

Father's Day

Father's Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June. This year (2025) it falls on June 15.
While many countries, including India, celebrate the festival on the third Sunday of June, a few other countries like Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Spain have already observed Father's Day on March 19.

World Blood Donor Day

Every year, the world observes World Blood Donor Day on June 14 to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood and supporting communities.
The World Health Assembly designated June 14 as World Blood Donor Day in 2004. This day honours the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner and serves as a global campaign to promote blood donation and ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for everyone.
