Puducherry Doctors Win Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award 2026

Puducherry, 12 February 2026 — Two senior ophthalmologists from Puducherry, Dr Haripriya Aravind and Dr R Venkatesh, have been selected for the Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award 2026. They will receive the honour at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation conference in Washington DC on 11 April. The award recognises exceptional service in cataract care and includes a $100,000 grant, which the recipients have chosen to donate to the Aravind Eye Care System to support its non‑profit initiatives.

Chef Vishnu Manohar sets finger millet pudding world record in Gadchiroli

At the Koya Krushi Kumbh festival in Gadchiroli, Chef Vishnu Manohar led a team to prepare finger millet (ragi) pudding weighing 1,111 kilograms, setting a world record. The feat showcased coarse cereals grown locally and their nutritional value on a global stage. The record was registered with the India Book of Records, the Asia Book of Records and the World Record Book of India. Farmers from Gadchiroli supplied the grain, cultivated through sustainable practices. The event drew national and international attention to traditional cereals and rural economies, highlighting culinary innovation linked to agriculture.

Indian Educator Wins Global Teacher Prize 2026

Indian teacher Rouble Nagi has won the Global Teacher Prize 2026 at the World Government Summit in Dubai. The award carries one million dollars and was presented by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Nagi was honoured for turning neglected walls into interactive murals that teach reading, writing, arithmetic, public health and environmental awareness. Over two decades, her work has helped more than one million children access formal education through art. She was selected from over 5,000 nominations representing 139 countries.
