  •  Argentine economy minister Nicolas Dujovne resigned  capping a week of market chaos that followed President Mauricio Macri's stunning loss in a primary vote. 
  • Hernan Lacunza, economic minister for the province of Buenos Aires, would replace Dujovne.

  •  Harish Madhav has taken over as Director Finance on the board of Oil India Limited. He would be succeeding Rupshikha Saikia Borah.
  • Earlier, Madhav was Executive Director (Finance) at Oil India's Corporate office and was also functioning as the Chief Financial Officer handling a diverse gamut of financial and accounting functions covering international fund raising, treasury management, etc.

PT Usha Appoints In AAAs Athletes Commission

  •  PT Usha, one of India's greatest athletes, has been appointed as a member of the Asian Athletics Association's (AAA) Athletes Commission.
  • The other members of the commission are Kazakhstan's former Olympic champion triple jumper Olga Rypakova, China's Wang Yu, Malaysia's Lee Hup Wei and Saudi Arabia's Saad Shaddad.

  • K Venkateswara Rao has taken charge as the Managing Director of  NABARD Consultancy Services –NABCONS (a wholly owned subsidiary of NABARD) on superannuation of Naresh Gupta, the former Managing Director, NABCONS .
  • Prior to his appointment, he was heading Farm Sector Policy Department in National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Head Office, Mumbai as Chief General Manager.

INSA Gets First Woman President

  •  Former director of the National Institute of Immunology Chandrima Shaha has been elected as the first woman president of the reputed Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
  • Shaha, who will head INSA from 2020, said  her priority would be to make efforts to further popularise science among the masses, and she would also focus on more collaborations with foreign institutes.

Manmohan Files RS Nomination

  •  Former prime minister Manmohan Singh filed his nomination for the August 26, 2019 bypoll to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
  • The seat fell vacant after the death  of Madan Lal Saini of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also a former state party president. Rajasthan has 10 Rajya Sabha seats, so far all held by the BJP.
  • After filing his nomination, the 87-year-old leader thanked the Congress for nominating him.

Wrestler Babita Phogat And Father Join Bjp

  •  Ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, international wrestler Babita Phogat and her father Mahavir Phogat joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi.
  • An Arjuna awardee, Babita won the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She bagged a gold medal in the same event at Glasgow in 2014 and at Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.
  • Both Babita and her father,a Dronacharya awardee, joined the BJP in the presence of sports and youth affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, party's general secretary in charge of Haryana Anil Jain and state chief Subhash Badala.
  • The Phogat household came to be known nationwide following the success of Hindi film Dangal, which was loosely based on the lives of Phogat sisters, all of them wrestlers, and their father who coached them against all odds.

Sonia Gandhi Is Back As Congress President

  •  Less than two years after she gave up the post, Sonia Gandhi was chosen to be president of the Congress on August10, 2019 albeit in an interim position, as the grand old party gropes for direction in the aftermath of a devastating electoral defeat that prompted her son and successor Rahul Gandhi to resign.
  •  The CWC finally accepted the resignation Rahul Gandhi submitted as president on May 25, 2019.
  • Sonia Gandhi, 72, who is also chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), was chosen interim president of the 134-year-old party after a last ditch effort by the CWC to persuade Rahul Gandhi, 49, to continue failed.

K Sreekant Assumes Charge Of CMD, Powergrid

  •  K Sreekant has assumed charge of Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID).
  • Prior to taking up this assignment, he was serving as Director (Finance), POWERGRID.He has experience of more than 33 years in power sector.

AK Mishra, Joins NHDC As New Managing Director

  •  AK Mishra has joined NHDC as Managing Director. He was serving in NHPC as an Executive Director and has a rich and varied experience of more than 37 years in various fields including investigation, planning, construction and contract management of hydroelectric projects.
  • Out of this, about 23 years' experience is during field postings in projects which include 9 years of postings in remote and inaccessible terrain.
