Former DG CRPF Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar appointed as Advisor to J&K LG

  • Former Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar has been appointed as Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • With this, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K Union Territory, Girish Chandra Murmu will have three Advisors. The other two Advisors -K K Sharma and Farooq Khan were appointed on November 14, 2019.

Former Karnataka Governor TN Chaturvedi passed away

  • Former Karnataka Governor Triloki Nath Chaturvedi died at the age of 90. According to ourbitcoinnews.com, he was admitted to Kailash Hospital in Sector-27 of Noida, due to sudden chest pain. He died at the hospital where is was being treated.
  • Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu condoled Triloki Nath Chaturvedi's demise. "In his public and administrative life, as a CAG, Governor and MP he served the country faithfully," the Vice President of India tweeted in Hindi.
  • Triloki Nath Chaturvedi, was an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and was the Governor of Karnataka from 2002–2007.

Ex-CRPF DG Bhatnagar appointed Advisor to Jammu-Kashmir Lt Governor

  • IPS officer Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, who recently retired as the CRPF DG, has been appointed as an advisor to the Lt Governor of Jammu-Kashmir.
  • Bhatnagar is a 1983-batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He superannuated as the CRPF Director General (DG) on December 31 last year after heading the 3.25 lakh personnel force for over two and a half years.
  • The Advisor shall assist the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the effective discharge of his function.
  • The appointment will be effective from the date from which he assumes charge.
  • G C Murmu, an IAS officer, is the LG of Jammu Kashmir UT since its creation on October 31 last year.

Former Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker PH Pandian dies at 74

  • Former Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker and senior AIADMK leader PH Pandian passed away after ailing from a prolonged disease. He was 74.
  • PH Pandian breathed his last at Ramachandra Hospital in Tamil Nadu.
  • PH Pandian, a lawyer by profession, served as Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly between 1985 to 1987 when MG Ramachandran was the chief minister.
  • He shortly joined Janaki's faction of the AIADMK after MG Ramachandran's demise, but later joined hands with Jayalalithaa.
  • Later between 1999 to 2004, PH Pandian served as Tirunelveli MP of the AIADMK.
  • He had become such a close aide of Jayalalithaa that in a first, he and his son both were holding public positions in AIADMK.

Mountaineer Poorna Scales Peak In Antarctica

  •  Malavath Poorna, who has won laurels for scaling Mount Everest thereby becoming the youngest girl in the world to achieve the feat, has added another feather to her cap by conquering Mt. Vinson Massif, the Antarctica continents highest mountain peak (4,987 metres).
  • Eighteen-year-old Poorna becomes the first and youngest tribal woman in the world to set foot on the six tallest mountain peaks across six continents.

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for extending the deputation tenure of IPS Abhinav Kumar, Inspector General, Border Security Force (BSF), up to June 27, 2021, in relaxation of IPS Tenure Policy.
  • Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for extension of deputation tenure of IPS Abhinav Kumar, Inspector General, Border Security Force (BSF) beyond 31.10.2019 and up to 27.07.2021 (total tenure of seven years), in relaxation of IPS Tenure Policy.

Freedom Fighter Bhim Chandra Jana Dies At 107

  •  Centenarian freedom fighter Bhim Chandra Jana has died of old age-related ailments in West Bengal's Howrah district.
  • He died at his residence in Marotala.
  • Jana was 107 and is survived by six sons and six daughters and their children.
  • The freedom fighter's youngest son Ashok Jana said his father was arrested for the first time in 1930 at the age of 17 while opposing the use of foreign goods.
  • Jana was awarded by the Government of India after Independence and was an avowed Gandhian all his life.

  • IT firm Birlasoft said that its Chief Financial Officer Rajeev Gupta tendered his resignation and will be relieved of his duties at the end of March.
  • The company is in the process of appointing a new CFO and the same will be communicated to the stock exchanges in due course.

NCP Leader D. P. Tripathi Dies

  • Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader DP Tripathi passed away in New Delhi after a prolonged illness. He was 67.
  • Tripathi, the general secretary of the NCP and a former students' union leader, was battling cancer.
  • He was also the editor of the quarterly journal Think India. He spoke Indian and several foreign languages, and lectured in a number of foreign universities.
  • Having become involved in politics at the age of sixteen, Tripathi became one of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's aides.

Suresh Chandra Sharma New Chairman of NMC

  • The head of ENT department at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Professor Suresh Chandra Sharma, was appointed chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC) that aims to replace the graft-tainted Medical Council of India as the country's medical education regulator. With his name approved for the post, Dr. Sharma will hold the post for a period of three years.

David Stern Dies

  • David Stern, the former commissioner of the US National Basketball Association (NBA), died at the age of 77.
  • He had been in a serious condition after suffering a brain haemorrhage in December.
  • Stern was the NBA's longest-serving commissioner, holding the job for 30 years until retiring in February 2014.
  • He is credited with massively increasing the sport's revenues and popularity at home and abroad during his tenure.
