Sachin Tendulkar Becomes Brand Ambassador of Paytm First Games

  • Digital payment company Paytm said, "Its gaming subsidiary Paytm First Games (PFG) has roped in cricket personality 'Sachin Tendulkar' as its brand ambassador. Now he will be looking to raise awareness about the world of fantasy sports in the country.
  • Digital payments company Paytm said, besides Fantasy cricket, he is also going to promote PFG sports including kabaddi, football, and basketball.  The company has said that its partnership with Sachin Tendulkar could extend its reach to smaller cities and towns. PFG's parent company Paytm is India's most valuable unicorn with $16 billion.

  • Great Learning, the edtech company for professional and higher education, has announced the appointment of Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador.
  • The captain of the Indian cricket team will serve as the face of the Great Learning brand and lead the brand's latest 'Power Ahead' campaign, which underlines the importance of lifelong learning and showcases how high quality learning at the right time can help professionals and students power ahead in their career.

Rajesh Khullar New Executive Director of World Bank

  • Senior bureaucrat Rajesh Khullar has been appointed as Executive Director, World Bank, Washington.
  • Khullar, a 1988-batch IAS officer, is currently serving in his cadre state Haryana. He is the principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
  • He will have a tenure of three years or till the date of his superannuation, i.e. August 31, 2023.
  • In another order, the Personnel Ministry said that Sameer Kumar Khare has been appointed Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila.
  • Khare is a 1989-batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre and is currently the additional secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs.
  • He has been appointed Executive Director of ADB for a tenure of three years.

Senior Journalist N. Rajesh Passes Away

  • N. Rajesh, 56, senior news editor with Madhyamam daily, passed away.
  • He is known for his reportage of national and international sporting events such as the Asian Football Championship, Afro-Asian Games, and the National Games. Mr. Rajesh has bagged the Kerala Sports Council Award in 1992 and the Swadeshabhimani Award.
  • He was a member of the State Media Accreditation Committee, executive committee member of the Kerala Media Academy, and the State committee member of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists. He was also a faculty member at the Institute of Communication and Journalism under the Calicut Press Club.

Paresh Rawal to Head National School of Drama

  • President Ram Nath Kovind appointed actor and former BJP MP Paresh Rawal has been appointed as the chairperson of the National School of Drama society.
  • Mr. Rawal's experience would help artistes and students of the NSD. Mr. Rawal, who served one term as the Ahmedabad East MP from 2014-2019.
  • The post had been vacant since playwright Ratan Thiyam's tenure ended in 2017. Mr. Rawal has been appointed for a four-year term.

  • Former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, 74, passed away in New Delhi after a prolonged illness. 
  • The five-term Lok Sabha MP representing Vaishali had been in the news recently despite his illness for expressing his disenchantment with the way his party for 32 years, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), was being run and handwritten letters, attributed to him, were being circulated as his resignation from the party.

Dame Diana Rigg: Avengers, Bond and Game of Thrones Actress Dies at 82

  • Actress Dame Diana Rigg, famous for roles including Emma Peel in TV series The Avengers and Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 82.
  • Her daughter, actress Rachael Stirling, said she died of cancer, after being diagnosed in March.
  • Dame Diana also played the only woman who became Mrs James Bond.
  • She played Tracy, who married George Lazenby's 007 in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Ayushmann Khurrana Becomes UNICEF's Celebrity Advocate for Children's Rights Campaign

  • UNICEF India announced Ayushmann Khurrana as its celebrity advocate for children's rights campaign - 'For Every Child'. Khurrana will support UNICEF towards ending violence against children.
  • He will work towards this initiative in India and joins the likes of former football star David Beckham, who works on this campaign globally.
  • Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF representative in India said they are delighted to have Khurrana as a UNICEF celebrity advocate as they believe that his support will help in creating awareness about the issue.
