V. Krishnamurthy, Maruti's Former Chairman, PSUs' Turnaround Man, Dies

  • Venkataraman Krishnamurthy, who is considered as the turnaround man of several Indian corporate houses like BHEL, Maruti Udyog, SAIL and Gail (India), passed away at the age of 97.
  • Krishnamurthy is considered as "the father of public sector undertakings in India" by many in India Inc. Born in the temple town of Tamil Nadu's Karuveli, he started his career as an airfield technician during the Second World War. He's probably the only person in India Inc who has the enviable recognition of being the chief executive officer of Bharat Heavy Electricals, Maruti Udyog, Steel Authority of India and GAIL (India). He was the founder chairman of Maruti Udyog Ltd and is known for working behind the introduction of the iconic Maruti 800.

Khushi Patel from United Kingdom Wins Miss India Worldwide 2022

  • Khushi Patel, a biomedical student from the United Kingdom, was declared the winner of the Miss India Worldwide 2022, the longest-running Indian pageant outside of India.
  • Vaidehi Dongre from the US was declared the first runner-up while Shrutika Mane was adjudged the second runner-up. The top-12 contestants at the pageant were the winners of various other contests globally.
  • Patel, who is doing her major in biomedical sciences and minor in psychology, said that she is delighted to have won the Miss India Worldwide 2022 pageant.
  • Roshani Razack from Guyana was declared Miss Teen India Worldwide 2022. Navya Paingol from the US was the first runner-up, while Chiquita Malaha from Suriname was the second runner-up, according to India Festival Committee (IFC), which has been organising the event for the past 29 years.
  • This year's pageant was held after a gap of three years, with the last one organised at the Leela Hotel in Mumbai in September 2019.

Veteran Photojournalist R. Raveendran Passes Away

  • Veteran photojournalist R. Raveendran passed away at the age of 69. Raveendran was the recipient of numerous photography awards and is known for his iconic photo of Rajiv Goswami setting himself on fire during the Mandal agitation in the Capital.
  • He has worked in AFP and ANI. He started his career as a teleprinter operator in AFP 1973 and then became a photographer. He was presently working with ANI as Photo Editor.

French Screen Icon Jean-Louis Trintignant Dies

  • Jean-Louis Trintignant, one of France's best-known actors who starred in more than 100 films, died aged 91.
  • Trintignant featured in Three Colours: Red, Z, The Conformist and Amour - which won an Oscar and the Palme d'Or.
  • The star gained huge public sympathy in France in 2003, after his daughter Marie was beaten to death by her rock star boyfriend.
  • Born on 11 December 1930, Trintignant grew up during the adversity of World War Two and was sent as a young conscript to Algeria, then a French colony.

Gopi Chand Narang, the Renaissance Man of Urdu, Passes Away

  • Eminent Urdu scholar, linguist, literary critic, and former Chairperson of Sahitya Akademi, Gopi Chand Narang passed away. He was 91.
  • Narang, who was admired in the Subcontinent among the masses and scholars of Urdu with equal enthusiasm, was recognised both by the Government of India and that of Pakistan (he received Padma Bhushan in India and Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in Pakistan). He worked extensively on explaining and analysing the works of Ghalib, Mir Taqi Mir and later Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Firaq Gorakhpuri beyond thematic and typical writings, penned about 60 books in his career and made every attempt to keep the language beyond communalism. Apart from this, he also designed 10 books for children under the title 'Let's Learn Urdu' in English and Hindi.

Asian Games Double Gold Medallist Hari Chand Passes Away

  • Long-distance runner Hari Chand, who won two gold medals at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games, passed away at his native village Ghorewaha in Hoshiarpur district. Chand won a gold medal at the 1975 Asian Championship in 10,000 m and a bronze medal in 5,000 m. Later, he won two gold medals at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok in the 5000 m and 10,000 m events. He also participated in two Olympic Games in 1976 and 1980. Chand was also conferred with the Arjuna Award.
  • CM Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences over the death of the athlete. Mann said that the double gold medalist from Hoshiarpur was the pride of Indian athletics and he would be a source of inspiration for the generations to come.
