Defence Ministry Signs Contract with L&T for Self-propelled Tracked Artillery Guns
Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited for procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army under Buy (Indian) category at a total cost of Rs. 7,628.70 crore.
The contract was signed by senior officials of the Ministry and representatives of L&T in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in South Block, New Delhi.
DRDO, IIT Delhi & the Industry Sign 10 Tripartite Agreements
The DRDO, IIT Delhi and the industry signed ten tripartite agreements for development and manufacturing among others of light weight bullet proof jacket ABHED, and indigenous polymeric ballistic material.
This happened at an event titled 'DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) organised at IIT Delhi.
Transfer of Technology (TOT) of light weight bullet resistant jacket (ABHED- Advanced Ballistic High Energy Defeat) was handed over to defence PSU MIDHANI (Mishra Dhatu Nigam), and private firms, SMPP Pvt Ltd, AR Polymers and MKU.
Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for development of indigenous ballistic material was signed with Reliance Industries Ltd. Additional MoA for limited series production of extreme cold weather clothing was inked with Aeronav Industrial Safety Appliance, Arnaf Industries Ltd, and Arrow Garments.

INS Nirdeshak: Indian Navy's New Survey Ship Commissioned
INS Nirdeshak, the second ship of the Survey Vessel (large) project was commissioned into the Indian Navy, in a ceremony presided over by Sanjay Seth, Union Minister of State for Defence, at Naval Dockyard in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam.
Built with over 80 per cent indigenous content, the ship is embedded with advanced hydrographic systems such as Multi Beam Echo Sounders, Side Scan Sonars, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) etc. These enable precise mapping for safe navigation and planning in deep-sea operations, expand survey capabilities in hazardous and restricted zones and facilitate faster and safer data collection for wreck identifications and environmental studies.

India, Sri Lanka Joint Naval Exercise
Aiming to strengthen India-Sri Lanka naval ties, the 2024 edition of the Sri Lanka–India Exercise (SLINEX) is taking place in Visakhapatnam between December 17 and 20.
The Indian Navy's INS Sumitra, a naval offshore patrol vessel, is participating alongside a Special Forces team. Sri Lanka has deployed SLNS Sayura, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, with its own Special Forces team.
The exercise is being conducted in two phases -- the harbour phase and the sea phase.
Established in 2005, SLINEX highlights the robust maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka, fostering interoperability and strengthening naval ties.

US Armed Forces Test 'Dark Eagle' Hypersonic Missile
The U.S. military successfully tested its Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), also known as 'Dark Eagle,' bringing it closer to being fielded as a crucial asset in modern warfare. The test, conducted at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, demonstrated the missile's ability to travel at speeds exceeding 3,800 miles per hour (Mach 5), and its capability to strike distant and well-defended targets.
This achievement marks a major milestone in hypersonic technology development for the U.S. military, with future operational deployment planned by 2025.
Macron Ally François Bayrou New French Prime Minister
France's President Emmanuel Macron appointed centrist ally Francois Bayrou as Prime Minister, as he seeks to calm a political crisis that has left his authority dwindling by the day.
Macron's office made the announcement a week after the former office holder Michel Barnier lost a vote of no confidence, forcing him to submit his resignation.
Bayrou is the leader of the centrist MoDem party and a political heavyweight from south-western France. A former Education Minister, and Mayor of the south-western town of Pau, he has been an ally and close confidente to Emmanuel Macron since he swept to power in 2017.
