Shooting: India Finishes Second in Overall Standings in First Leg of ISSF World Cup

  • In the first leg of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 at Buenos Aires, Argentina, India finished second in the standings behind China. India won a total of 8 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
  • The second stage of the ISSF World Cup 2025 is being held in Lima, Peru, from April 13 to 22.

ICC Joins Hands with BCCI, ECB and CA to Support Initiative for Displaced Afghan Women Cricketers

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the formation of a dedicated task force to support displaced Afghan women cricketers. In a landmark initiative, the ICC joined hands with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA) to assist these talented athletes in both their cricketing and personal development journeys.
  • As part of the initiative, the ICC will establish a dedicated fund to provide direct monetary assistance, ensuring these cricketers have the resources they need to continue pursuing the game they love. This will be complemented by a robust high-performance programme offering advanced coaching, world-class facilities, and tailored mentorship to help them reach their full potential.

Bihar CM, Union Sports Minister unveil logo, mascot of Khelo India Youth Games 2025

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the official logo of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in Patna on April 14, 2025. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the Games's mascot during the programme organised at the Samvad hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
  • The mascot Khelo India is 'Gajsimha' which symbolises the power of elephant and heart of lion. The mascot has been derived from the archival heritage of Pala dynasty from Nalanda and Bodhgaya engraved on temples and their pillars.
  • The logo of KIYG 2025 has been inspired from the rich cultural heritage of Bihar and the colours orange and depicts enthusiasm and nature.
  • Mr. Kumar and Mr. Mandaviya also jointly released the theme song of the Youth Games, which will be held in the state for the first time from May 4 to 15. The Gaurav Yatra Rath of the sporting event was also flagged off.
  • The Games will be organised across five districts of Bihar — Patna, Nalanda (Rajgir), Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai.

Cricket in 2028 Olympics: Organisers Confirm Six Teams to Participate at LA Games

  • Organisers confirmed the return of cricket, to the Olympic Games after 128 years, at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics to be held from July 14 to 30, 2028, only six teams will be in contention for the coveted gold medal.
  • Last played in the Olympics as a one-off match in Paris in 1900, cricket will be part of the LA 2028 Games as well as in Brisbane four years later in 2032.
  • Organisers confirmed that the LA tournament would be played in the T20 format with six teams competing in both the men's and women's competitions. Consequently, 90 player quotas have been allocated for each gender, allowing every team to name a 15-member squad.
