Tense Times for Tourism and Hospitality Industry

The travel and hospitality sector is facing the heat with the deadly Covid-19 spreading not only to Europe and Iran but also to India, with bookings being cancelled or rescheduled at a fast pace.
Operators such as Thomas Cook, SOTC, FCM Travel Solutions, Yatra and MakeMyTrip admitted their businesses have been hit. They are offering the option of deferring trips or availing future travel vouchers, refunds and even alternative destinations to Indian travellers who have booked on the China and South-East Asia route.
Till now predominantly the Asian continent was impacted with travellers cancelling and rescheduling travel. Now rising reports from Italy, Spain, and Switzerland mean that the popular Europe sector will also be impacted. No authority is coming out and declaring if a particular country is safe to travel to and this is adding to the travel fears.

Indian Railways Launches its First 'Restaurant on Wheels' at Asansol Railway Station

Indian Railways launched its first 'Restaurant on Wheels' at the circulating area of Asansol railway station for the use of passengers as well as the general public.
The Restaurant on Wheels was developed by refurbishing two over-aged MEMU coaches.
Supriyo also inaugurated two new air-conditioned Retiring Rooms and Electronic Reservation Chart Display System and a battery-operated car at Asansol station.

A 2-day Long First-ever Bharat-Bangla Tourism Festival 2020 in Tripura

The first-ever 2 days long Bharat-Bangla Paryatan Utsav 2020 (Tourism Festival) was held at Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, Tripura from February 20-21, 2020 to boost the Tripura tourism sector.
It was inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister (CM) Biplab Kumar Deb & organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Tripura in memories of the contribution of Tripura in 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.
The key attraction of the festival includes seminars, discussions, cultural events, etc.
The festival saw the participation of Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner to Tripura Kiriti Chakma, MP (Member of Parliament) Pratima Bhwomik, MP from Bangladesh Md. Abdus Saheed (who paid tribute to the Indians, who helped Bangladesh in the 1971 liberation war) and many other officials of Bangladesh.

Malaysia Maintains Tourism Target

Malaysia expects to meet its target of a record 30 million tourists this year by redirecting its marketing efforts to local and other markets as arrivals from coronavirus-hit China fall.
The epidemic comes at a bad time, as the country is pushing its "Visit Malaysia 2020" programme to rev up its stuttering economy, Southeast Asia's third-largest. Tourism accounts for 11.8% of Malaysia's gross domestic product, with 28 million arrivals last year, 11% of them from China, according to data.
While numbers on tourist arrivals for January aren't yet available, Malaysia has imposed a temporary ban on visitors from Chinese provinces placed on lockdown by the Chinese government, in a bid to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), tourists from fellow Southeast Asian countries and India are some of the other big contributors to the visitors tally.

Railways to Run Tourist Train from March 28

The Indian Railways will begin commercial run of its Ramayana-themed special tourist train, Shri Ramayana Express, from March 28.
The train will commence its journey from Delhi on March 28, and tourists can board the train from Delhi Safdarjung, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareily and Lucknow.
In a 16-night-17-day tour, people will be visiting the places associated with Lord Ram, including Ram Janmbhoomi and Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya; Bharat Mandir at Nandigram; Sita Mata Mandir at Sitamarhi in Bihar; Janakpur in Nepal, Tulsi Manas Mandir and Sankat Mochan Mandir at Varanasi; Sita Samahit Sthal at Sitamarhi in U.P.; Triveni Sangam, Hanuman Mandir and Bharadwaj Ashram at Prayag; Shringi Rishi Mandir at Shringverpur; Ramghat and Sati Anusuiya Mandir at Chitrakoot; Panchvati at Nasik; Anjanadri Hill and Hanuman Janm Sthal at Hampi and Jyotirlinga Shiva Mandir at Rameshwaram.
An option of add-on tour to Srilanka is also available with limited 40 seats, that will allow tourists to visit places related to Ramayana in Srilanka.
