Novelist David Diop Wins International Booker Prize

French novelist David Diop won the prestigious International Booker Prize for books translated into English with his World War I-set novel, 'At Night All Blood is Black'.
The Paris-born writer became the first French winner of the prize, awarded for a book translated into English and published in the UK or Ireland, in a ceremony broadcast online from Coventry Cathedral in central England.
The book's translator Anna Moschovakis won half the £50,000 ($70,850) prize, which recognises the major role of translators.
Diop's novel tells the story of two Senegalese soldiers fighting for France in the trenches of World War I. When one, Mademba, is killed, the other, Alfa, descends into ever greater violence and madness.
The International Booker Prize, formerly known as the Man Booker International Prize, has been awarded since 2005, when it was won by Albanian writer Ismail Kadare.
It is a sister prize to the Booker Prize, awarded to a novel written in English.

Winners of Apple 'WWDC21 Swift Student Challenge

Abinaya Dinesh, an Indian-origin girl, is among three winners of the annual WWDC21 Swift Student Challenge, a platform for the young brains willing to demonstrate their coding and problem-solving skills.
Passionate about the intersection of medicine and technology, something that became personal for her last year, Dinesh created an app called Gastro at Home, which she plans to launch on the App Store this summer.
The app offers people with gastrointestinal disorders a way to access information and resources, especially because those types of conditions can sometimes be sensitive to talk about.
The idea of creating such an app came in the mind of Dinesh after she herself suffered from gastrointestinal problems.

Bennett Prize Names 2021 Recipient

The artist Ayana Ross has won the 2021 Bennett Prize, which comes with $50,000 and recognises the achievements of women working in figurative painting. The funds will be used toward a traveling solo show of Ross's work, which often examines Black life in the American South. An exhibition at the Muskegon Museum of Art in Michigan, on view through September 5, features work by Ross, the nine other finalists for this year's award, and Aneka Ingold, the first winner of the Bennett Prize in 2019.

Thamizh's Debut Film 'Seththumaan' Wins Grand Jury Award

Tamil filmmaker Thamizh's debut film Seththumaan and Karishma Dube's short Bittu have bagged top prizes at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA).
The 19th edition of the festival concluded its eight-day run, during which it showcased 40 films in 17 languages, including movies by 16 women directors.
A jury comprising of Milan Chakraborty, Nathan Fischer and Jenn Wilson declared Thamizh's 'Seththumaan' as the winner of Grand Jury Award for Best Feature.
Filmmaker Sajin Baabu's Malayalam film 'Biriyaani' was recognised with the Honorable Mention, while Ajitpal Singh's 'Fire in the Mountains' took home the Audience Award for Best Feature.
Karishma Dube's 'Bittu', which was in the race for a nomination at the 2021 Oscars, bagged the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short.

C.N.R. Rao Receives 2020 International ENI Award

Noted Indian scientist and Bharat Ratna Professor, C.N.R. Rao has been felicitated with the International Eni Award 2020 (also called the Energy Frontier award). The International Eni Award is considered to be the Nobel Prize in Energy Research. He has been conferred the prize for his work on metal oxides, carbon nanotubes and other materials and two-dimensional systems.
Professor Rao will be presented the Eni Awards 2020 on 14 October 2021, during an official ceremony held at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. The Eni Award is awarded annually by the Italian oil and gas company Eni to encourage better use of energy sources and increased environmental research.
