Rashtriya Raksha University Signs MoU with French Starburst Aerospace

Gandhinagar-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) and Starburst Aerospace of France entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance aerospace, defence, and homeland security innovation. The MoU includes the creation of a venture capital fund of 100 million euros for aerospace, defence and security technology and provides export promotion support for Indian start-ups to explore international markets.
The strategic alliance between RRU, Starburst, and Security and Scientific Technical Research Association (SASTRA), a not-for-profit company set up by RRU, is aimed at fostering innovation and driving advancements in the aerospace, defence and homeland security sectors.
RRU and Starburst will work together to advance a vibrant security and defence ecosystem in India, facilitating enterprise creation and nurturing the rapid growth of innovative start-ups in the region.

Indian Navy Conducts Mega Exercise on East Coast

The Indian Navy carried out an extensive exercise along the East Coast as part of efforts to check its preparedness to meet any maritime security challenges. The exercise 'Poorvi Leher' witnessed participation of ships, submarines, aircraft and special naval forces.
Exercise Poorvi Lehar was conducted on East Coast under the Operational Control of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
The exercise was conducted in multiple phases, including combat training in a realistic scenario during the tactical phase and successful conduct of various firings during the weapon phase, towards reaffirming the Indian Navy's capability to deliver ordnance on target.

Amid South China Sea Tension, India Delivers BrahMos to Philippines

India delivered the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines as part of a $375-million deal signed in 2022.
An IAF C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft and a chartered aircraft delivered the missile system to the Philippines Marine Corps.
As per reports, three batteries of the weapon system would be deployed by the Philippines in their coastal area amid tensions with China in the South China Sea.
The deal for a shore-based variant of an anti-ship cruise missile marked India's first major export order. The missile has a range of around 290 km.

CRPF ADG Nalin Prabhat New Chief of NSG

Senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat was appointed as the Director-General of National Security Guard (NSG), the country's counter-terrorism force.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment as the Director General, NSG for a period up to August 31, 2028, i.e. the date of his superannuation.
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) chief Daljit Singh Chawdhary was holding the additional charge of the NSG.
The ACC also approved the appointment of Intelligence Bureau Additional Director Sapna Tewari as the Special Director in the agency. Tewari was appointed for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or up to the date of her superannuation, i.e. April 30, 2026.

AFMS & IIT Kanpur to Collaborate on Developing Technologies to Address Health Problems Faced by S...

The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and development of technologies to address health issues faced by soldiers in difficult terrains. The MoU was signed by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of AFMS, and Prof S Ganesh, Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur.
Under this partnership, AFMS and IIT Kanpur will work together to conduct research and develop innovative technologies aimed at tackling the health challenges encountered by soldiers operating in tough environments. IIT Kanpur will provide technical expertise to develop AI diagnostic models at the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine, which has been established at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. This centre is the first of its kind among medical colleges in India.

India Successfully Flight-tests Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha.
As per DRDO, all subsystems performed as per expectation during the test.
After the launch, the performance of the missile was monitored by several Range Sensors such as Radar, Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and Telemetry.

Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi to Take Over as Navy Chief

Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi is set to take over as the next Navy Chief from April 30, with the government clearing his appointment for the role.
He is currently serving as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and will succeed Admiral R. Hari Kumar who retires from service on April 30.
The top officer was commissioned on July 1, 1985 into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy and has a distinguished service of nearly four decades.
A Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist, he served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command prior to taking over as VCNS.
He also served as Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and Chief of Personnel in the naval headquarters.

General Manoj Pande Inaugurates High-Tech IT Lab at Academy of Armed Forces in Uzbekistan

During his visit to Uzbekistan from April 15 to 18, 2024, Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, marked a significant milestone in bilateral defense cooperation between India and Uzbekistan by inaugurating a state-of-the-art IT Laboratory at the Uzbek Academy of Armed Forces. This initiative stems from a commitment made during the Defence Ministers' meeting in September 2018, highlighting the growing partnership between the two nations.
During his visit, General Pande engaged in discussions with First Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Khalmukhamedov Shukhrat Gayratjanovich, focusing on enhancing military cooperation between the Indian and Uzbek Armies. This interaction underscores the commitment to bolstering strategic ties and fostering mutual understanding.
The establishment of the high-tech IT Laboratory is a collaborative effort between India and Uzbekistan, with Indian assistance facilitating its inception. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and funded through the Ministry of External Affairs' 'c' initiative, the Lab is poised to enhance training resources for the Uzbek armed forces, promoting technological advancement and cooperation between the two nations.
Despite initial budget constraints, the project gained momentum and was successfully executed within the allotted timeframe. An Indian firm won the contract and ensured the Lab's full operational readiness, showcasing the commitment to excellence and collaborative partnership between India and Uzbekistan.
General Pande's visit and the inauguration of the IT Laboratory underscore a significant milestone in the defense cooperation between India and Uzbekistan. This initiative not only strengthens bilateral ties but also reinforces the commitment to mutual growth and development in the realm of defense technology and cooperation.
