World Pulses Day

World Pulses Day as the name suggests is a day dedicated to the importance of pulses. This day is observed on February 10 of every year. This year the theme of the day is "Nutritious Seeds for a Sustainable Future." It is a well-known fact that pulses have highly nutritious properties and are a very important part of a healthy diet for humans. However, a large number of people do not have access to this nutritious food item while some are unaware of its health benefits. In order to increase both awareness and access to pulses, the United Nations in 2018 decided to dedicate a day to pulses.
Apart from that, World Pulses Day also comes under the second goal of the United Nations i.e. "Zero Hunger." Moreover, the day also covers objectives mentioned in the United Nations Agenda 2030.

PM Modi to inaugurate World Sustainable Development Summit 2021

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the World Sustainable Development Summit 2021.
The theme of the Summit is 'Redefining our common future: Safe and secure environment for all'.
The 20th edition of The Energy and Resources Institute's (TERI) flagship event, the World Sustainable Development Summit, will be held online from February 10 to February 12 and will bring together a wide number of governments, business leaders, academicians, climate scientists, youth, and the civil society in the fight against climate change.

TERI to Organise World Sustainable Development Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World Sustainable Development Summit 2021 on February 10 video conferencing.
"The theme of the Summit is 'Redefining our common future: Safe and secure environment for all."
The 20th edition of The Energy and Resources Institute's (TERI) flagship event, the World Sustainable Development Summit, will be held online from February 10-12, 2021.
The Summit will bring together a wide number of governments, business leaders, academicians, climate scientists, youth, and the civil society in the fight against climate change.
India's Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of Earth Sciences are key partners of the Summit.

India Hosts Indian Ocean Region Defence Ministers' Conclave

India hosted the Indian Ocean Region- IOR Defence Ministers' Conclave in 2021. The event took place on the sidelines of Aero India 2021.
According to the release by Defence Ministry, the theme of the Indian Ocean Region Defence Ministers' Conclave is 'Enhanced Peace, Security, and Cooperation in the Indian Ocean'.
The Indian Ocean Region Defence Ministers' Conclave is an initiative to promote dialogue in an economic, institutional, and cooperative environment that can help in fostering the development of stability, peace, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.

International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation

International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation is a United Nations-sponsored annual awareness day that takes place on February 6 as part of the UN's efforts to eradicate female genital mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003.
One of the beliefs in support for this day acknowledges that culture is in "constant flux," and with the concerns begetting FGM being so high-risk, the abolition of such practices must be prompt. This is a movement for the rights of women and their bodies, as well as the protection of their physical health- which can be tremendously affected later in life. These efforts are to benefit actions fighting violence against women and girls as a whole. Every Woman, Every Child (a global movement), reports that "Although primarily concentrated in 29 countries in Africa and the Middle East, FGM is a universal problem and is also practiced in some countries in Asia and Latin America.

International Day of Human Fraternity

In December, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to declare 4th February as International Day of Human Fraternity.
The resolution was the outcome of Christian-Muslim cooperation to promote peace and intercultural dialogue in the world.
"The General Assembly, acting without a vote, adopted three resolutions and one decision today, including one calling for a further comprehensive review of United Nations peace building in 2025 and another proclaiming 4th February as the International Day of Human Fraternity," states the United Nations website.
International Day of Human Fraternity aims to underline the importance of raising awareness about different cultures and religions, or beliefs, and the promotion of tolerance.
It also aims to educate people that tolerance, pluralistic tradition, mutual respect, and the diversity of religions and beliefs promote human fraternity.
The day is to be observed each year, beginning in 2021.

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4. It is a global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally.
World Cancer Day originated in 2000 at the first World Summit Against Cancer, which was held in Paris. The Day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008.
Each year, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world, gathering communities, organisations, and individuals in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, places of worship -- in the streets and online -- acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.
The theme for World Cancer Day 2021 is 'I Am and I Will.' This year is a reminder of the enduring power of cooperation and collective action.

Nitin Gadkari to Inaugurate Webinar Series on Road Safety

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate a webinar series on road safety on February 9 with a focus on reducing fatalities in road accidents in the country.
The webinar series being organised by the India chapter of the International Road Federation (IRF) focuses on reducing the road fatalities in the country by half by 2030.
Total 12 webinars titled "Road Safety Challenges in India & Preparation of an Action Plan" will be held through the year.
