Veteran Lyricist Dev Kohli Passes Away

  • Veteran Hindi film lyricist Dev Kohli died at the age of 80. Dev Kohli was famed for his songs in over 100 films including Maine Pyaar Kiya, Baazigar, Judwaa 2, Musafir, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala and Taxi No. 9 2 11. He has collaborated with music directors like Anu Malik, Raam Laxman, Anand Raaj Anand, Anand Milind among others.
  • Born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan into a Sikh family, Kohli relocated to Dehradun following Partition.
  • Arriving in Mumbai in 1964 Kohli began looking for film work. With the release of the movie Gunda in 1969, he debuted in the Bollywood industry. His first big break came with the song Geet Gaata Hoon Main from the 1971 movie Laal Patthar.
  • He wrote lyrics for several hit songs like Aate Jaate Hanste Gaate, Kabootar Ja Ja Ja, Aaja Shaam Hone Aayee, Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun.
  • He and Anu Malik formed a spectacular partnership in the 1990s, working together.

Legendary Poet Jayanta Mahapatra Passes Away

  • Eminent poet Jayanta Mahapatra passed away. He was 95.
  • Born in Cuttack on October 22, 1928, Mahapatra was the first Indian poet to win a Sahitya Akademi award for English poetry. He was also conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2009. However, he returned it in 2015 to protest against rising intolerance in India.
  • The author of 'Indian Summer' and 'Hunger', considered classics in modern Indian English literature, Mahapatra penned 27 books of poems, of which seven are in Odia language and the rest in English.

  • She is Well-known for her memorable performances in classics like the superhit 1971 film 'Anand' and the 1974 movie 'Kora Kagaz'.
  • Seema Deo acted in nearly 90 Hindi and Marathi movies in a career spanning over six decades from the black-and-white to the colour era of the Indian film industry.

Infosys Onboards Nadal as Ambassador for Brand and Infosys' Digital Innovation

  • Tech giant Infosys extended its partnership with Tennis star Rafael Nadal as an ambassador for the brand and Infosys' Digital Innovation. Legendary Statistical Scientist C. R. Rao Passes Away

  • On a day India marked its presence on the Moon, it lost one of its brightest mathematical stars. C. Radhakrishna Rao, one of India's greatest mathematicians and statisticians, died in the US at the age of 102.
  • C. R. Rao, who completed his Masters from Andhra University, won the International Prize in Statistics (2023), which is considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize.
  • He was awarded India's highest honours the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan in 1969 and 2001, respectively.
  • Rao was also a member of several government committees for the development of national statistical systems, statistical education and research in India. He served as chairman of the Committee on Statistics (1962-69), chairman of the Demographic and Communication for Population Control (1968-69), chairman of the Committee on Mathematics, Atomic Energy Commission, AEC (1969-78), member of the Committee on Science and Technology, COST (1969-71).
