Indian Army's Daredevils Set New World Record for Highest Human Pyramid on Motorcycles

  • The Indian Army's Motorcycle Rider Display Team, known as the "Daredevils," set a new world record by creating the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles.
  • The formation, standing 20.4 feet tall and comprising 40 men on 7 motorcycles, travelled a distance of 2 kilometres along Kartavya Path, from Vijay Chowk to India Gate in New Delhi.
  • The Daredevils, part of the Corps of Signals, have earned international recognition for their daring performances and now hold 33 world records, including entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records, and Limca Book of Records.
  • Since their formation in 1935, the Daredevils have performed over 1,600 motorcycle displays across India, mesmerizing audiences at major events like Republic Day and Army Day parades.

India Tests 'Bhargavastra' Micro-Missile for Countering Drone Swarms

  • India successfully tested its first indigenous micro-missile system, 'Bhargavastra,' designed to counter swarm drone threats. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing the nation's defense capabilities against emerging aerial threats.

  • Detection and Neutralisation: Capable of detecting small aerial vehicles at distances exceeding 6 km and neutralizing them using guided micro munitions.

L&T Joins Forces with IIT Kanpur

  • This partnership is focused on the development of a Flight Laboratory dedicated to the advancement of Fixed Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the creation of sophisticated Flight Control Computers (FCC).
  • L&T, known for its expertise in defence systems integration and manufacturing, is leveraging IIT Kanpur's renowned aerospace engineering capabilities. Indian Navy Joins 9-nation Exercise

  • The Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai joined a nine-nation maritime exercise being conducted near the busiest shipping routes – the Malacca, Sunda and Lombok straits.
  • Among those at the exercise are the Navies of the US, the UK, Canada, France, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
  • The exercise named La Perouse, is being held from January 16, to 24, 2025.
  • Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai is participating in the exercise that aims to develop common maritime situational awareness by enhancing the cooperation in the field of maritime surveillance, maritime interdiction operations and air operations along with the conduct of progressive training and information sharing.

IPS G P Singh New Director General of CRPF

  • The Centre appointed senior IPS officer G. P. Singh as the Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
  • Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre was appointed days after the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed his name.
  • Singh has a reputation for being a tough cop. He also worked with the SPG. Since 2013, he was on central deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) where he served as Inspector General.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) Signs a Contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL)

  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy at a cost of approximately Rs. 2,960 crore.
  • The agreement was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
  • The MRSAM system, a high-response, quick-reaction, vertically launched supersonic missile, is designed to neutralise enemy aerial threats, including missiles, aircraft, guided bombs, and helicopters.
  • It is already in use by the Army, Navy, and Air Force in various configurations. The system has a range of up to 70 km.
  • The missiles will be supplied under the 'Buy (Indian)' category, with significant indigenous content.

Govt Launches App to Boost Battlefield Tourism

  • In a significant initiative to connect civilians with the valorous history of India's armed forces, the government launched the "Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan" app and website. Developed jointly by the Ministries of Defence, Tourism, and the Indian Army, the app allows civilians to visit key battlefield locations, including those of the 1962, 1971, and 1999 wars, and significant conflict zones like Siachen base camp and Galwan valley. This effort aims to transform border regions into tourist hubs, offering citizens a closer connection to India's military history and its soldiers' sacrifices.
