BEML Signs Licensing Agreements with DRDO to Manufacture Advanced Combat Support Vehicles for Army

  • BEML Limited entered into three licensing agreements with the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), a premier DRDO laboratory, for the Transfer of Technology to manufacture critical mobility and support systems for the Indian Army's Armoured Corps.
  • Under these agreements, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) will indigenously develop and produce the Unit Maintenance Vehicle (UMV) and Unit Repair Vehicle (URV) for MBT Arjun, and the Full Trailer for 70T Tank Transporter equipped with an Advanced Hydraulic Suspension System.

Key NSG Counter-Terror Event Held, Focus on Unified Response

  • In the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and India's response in the form of Operation Sindoor, the 23rd edition of the National Security Guard's (NSG) Counter-Terror International Seminar was held in New Delhi. The seminar saw key steps taken towards framing a unified Standard Operating Procedure for counterterrorism coordination.
  • The two-day event, inaugurated by Junior Home Minister Nityanand Rai, was themed 'Forging Collaboration and Innovation to Counter Terror Threats and Address the Complexities of Modern Terrorism'.
  • A major highlight of the seminar was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NSG and police forces of states and Union Territories. This landmark agreement lays the groundwork for a unified CT coordination standard operating procedure (SOP), institutionalised joint training, and enhanced First Responder interoperability across the nation.

Navy to Induct First Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft 'Arnala'

  • The first warship in the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft series, equipped to conduct subsurface surveillance, search and rescue missions, and low-intensity maritime operations, is set to be inducted into the Indian Navy on June 18.
  • The commissioning ceremony of 'Arnala' at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam will be presided over by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan.
  • The warship incorporates more than 80 per cent indigenous content and integrates advanced systems from leading Indian defence firms, including Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), L&T, Mahindra Defence, and MEIL.
  • Designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, under a public-private partnership (PPP) with L&T Shipbuilders, 'Arnala' is a testament to the success of the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative in defence manufacturing.

India, Mongolia Holding Joint Military Drill 'Nomadic Elephant 2025'

  • The 17th edition of the joint military exercise 'Nomadic Elephant 2025' between India and Mongolia is underway at the Special Forces Training Centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
  • According to the Indian Army, the training focuses on conducting non-conventional operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain under a United Nations mandate. The objective is to enhance the operational capabilities of both forces. Participating contingents are actively exchanging best practices in counter-terrorism operations and precision sniping, thereby improving interoperability.
  • The 'Nomadic Elephant 2025' exercise began on May 31 and is concludes on June 13, 2025.

Tata to Build Rafale Fighter Jet Fuselage under Deal with Dassault Aviation

  • Adding to its growing aerospace manufacturing capability, Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) signed agreements with France's Dassault Aviation to manufacture the Rafale fighter aircraft fuselage in India.
  • Tata will set up a dedicated manufacturing facility in Hyderabad to make the four main parts of the fuselage for Indian requirements as well as Dassault's global orders.

Uttar Pradesh Approves 20% Police Reservation for Ex-Agniveers

  • The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government approved 20% reservation for former Agniveers in state police recruitment. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting.
  • According to the official announcement, the reservation will apply to direct recruitment in several key categories within the police department, including civil police constables, PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary), mounted police constables, and firemen.
  • As per the state government, the quota is intended to support the integration of ex-Agniveers into civil services after their four-year military service under the Agnipath scheme. The move is part of Uttar Pradesh's larger effort to provide post-service employment opportunities to Agniveers and recognise their contribution to national defence.
