Successful Trials of India-Made Advanced Artillery Gun System Carried Out

The trials of the 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) were completed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR) by DRDO in May 2022. The ATAGS is an indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by the DRDO as a part of the artillery modernisation programme of the Indian Army.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army, DPSUs and private industries on the successful conduction of trials of the ATAGS and called it a shining example of AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan.

Indian Coast Guard Commissions its Second ALH Mk III Squadron in Kochi

Coast Guard commissioned its second Air Squadron, 845 Squadron (CG), at the Coast Guard Air Enclave at Nedumbassery in Kochi.
The new Air Squadron, commissioned by Coast Guard Director General V S Pathania, is equipped with the indigenously developed Advanced Mark III (ALH Mark III) helicopters.
The commissioning marks a tremendous leap towards self-reliance in the field of search and rescue operations and long-range maritime surveillance. Four helicopters have been positioned in Kochi to cover the entire coast of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep. The Squadron, led by Commandant Kunal Naik has nine officers and 35 men.

France's Naval Group Pulls Out of India's P-75I Submarine Project ahead of PM Modi's visit

French company Naval Group decided to pull out of India's P-75I project, under which six conventional submarines are to be domestically built for the Indian Navy, due to conditions mentioned in the request for proposal (RFP) related to air independent propulsion (AIP) system. AIP system allows a conventional submarine to stay submerged in water at higher speeds for a longer period of time.
Naval Group was ready to offer the best in class and adapted solution for Indian Navy's P-75I project, being fully in line with Aatma Nirbhar Bharat principle. However, the present RFP requires that the fuel cell AIP (air independent propulsion) be sea proven but the French Navy does not use such propulsion system.

NATO Exercises along its Eastern Flank

Military exercises involving thousands of NATO soldiers is being held. They were regular exercises aimed at improving the security of the alliance's eastern flank but come this year with Russia's war against Ukraine raging nearby. Due to those circumstances, Poland's military appealed to the public not to publish information or photos of the columns of military vehicles MOVING through the country. It warned that "ill-considered activity" could harm the alliance's security.
18,000 soldiers from over 20 countries were taking part in the Defender Europe 2022 and Swift Response 2022 exercises that are taking place in Poland and eight other countries.

Indian Navy Successfully Test-fired Anti-ship Version of BrahMos Missile

An anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired jointly by the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command. BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.
BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound. The range of the advanced version of the missile is learnt to have been extended to around 350 km from the original 290 km.

Indian Army Signs Tripartite MoU for 'Manipur Super 50'

Red Shield Division of the Indian Army under the aegis of Spear Corps entered into a tripartite agreement with the State Bank of India Foundation (SBIF) and the National Integrity and Educational Development Organization (NIEDO) to establish 'Red Shield Centre for Excellence and Wellness' in Manipur's Bishnupur district. The project 'Manipur Super 50' is expected to be fully functional for the first batch of 50 students by the first week of July 2022.
This initiative will be able to create a feeling of mental and social well-being amongst parents and their children by providing quality education thus catering for a better life and evolving responsible citizens for our country. The centre which will be opened in Bishnupur Battalion will remain as instrumental in bringing a progressive and inclusive society.

Lt Gen BS Raju Takes over as Vice Chief of Indian Army

Lt General B.S. Raju, took over as the Vice Chief of the Army.
An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in the Jat Regiment on December 15, 1984.
During his illustrious career spanning 38 years, he has held many important regimental, staff and instructional appointments in the Army headquarters and in field formation, including in the Military Secretary branch, Brigadier General Staff of the operationally active White Knight Corps, Deputy Director General, Military Operations, and Director General, Staff Duties.
He was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Yudh Seva Medal.
