Tata and Airbus to Make C-295MW Transport Aircraft for IAF in Vadodara

  • Moving to achieve a milestone in the highly competitive aviation industry and boosting its Make-in-India defence programme, the government announced that a transport aircraft manufacturing facility for the Indian Air Force will come up in Vadodara.
  • To start with, 40 of the 56 C-295MW transport aircraft being procured from Airbus Defence and Space SA, Spain, will be manufactured at the new facility in Vadodara.
  • In September 2021, after the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the procurement of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space SA, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract for acquisition of the aircraft with associated equipment.
  • Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar said that as part of the contract, 16 aircraft will be delivered in flyaway condition and 40 will be manufactured in India by the Indian aircraft contractor, Tata consortium of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led by TASL.

NISA Bags Union HM's Trophy for Best Police Training Institution

  • National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), at Hakimpet, Hyderabad bagged the Union Home Minister's Trophy for the "Best Police Training Institution for Training of Gazetted Officers for the year 2020-21". This extraordinary feat for this Academy was achieved during the serving period of the current Commissioner of Police (CP) Hyderabad, C.V. Anand, who was the previous Director of the Academy during the year under contention.
  • Ministry of Home Affairs conducts a national-level screening of various central police training institutes and accordingly BPR&D conducts a survey for the best Police Training Institution for the year. All central and state government police training academies of the country are in consideration in various categories.

Govt. Signs Pact with US to Procure MK 54 Torpedo, Expendables

  • The Centre inked a deal with the US government to procure MK 54 torpedo and expendables for the Indian Navy.
  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with the US Government under Foreign Military Sale (FMS) for procurement of MK 54 Torpedo and Expendable (Chaff and Flares) for the Indian Navy at a cost of Rs. 423 crore.
  • These weapons are the outfit of P-8I Aircraft which is used for Long range Maritime Surveillance, Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASV).
  • The Indian Navy has a total of 11 P-8I aircraft, which are manufactured by US aerospace company Boeing, in its fleet.

BDL Signs MOU with Dassault Aviation to Integrate ASTRA & SAAW Missiles on Rafale Jets

  • Bharat Dynamics signed an MoU with French Dassault Aviation for the integration of BDL Weapon Systems like Astra BVR & SAAW weapons on the IAF Rafale fighter jets.
  • Ministry of Defence, on May 31, 2022, had signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for supply of ASTRA MK-I Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air to Air Missile (AAM) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force & Indian Navy at a cost of Rs 2,971 crore under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

India and the US Conduct Exercise Tiger Triumph in Visakhapatnam

  • India and the US conducted the 'Tiger Triumph' humanitarian assistance exercise at India's Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.
  • The three-day exercise was a tabletop simulation during which Indian and the US, military and diplomatic, representatives coordinated a joint response to provide disaster relief services to a notional third country hit by a super-cyclone.
  • The 'Tiger Triumph' exercise was the second collaboration between the Indian and US militaries to coordinate disaster relief in the region. The first such exercise – also conducted at Visakhapatnam – was held over nine days in November 2019 and featured more than 500 US Marines and sailors, with approximately 1,200 Indian sailors, soldiers, and airmen.
