INS Chennai engages in joint exercise with Royal Saudi Naval Ship HMS Al Jubail

In a clear demonstration of its commitment to ensuring secure maritime environments, the Indian Navy has strategically positioned its indigenous guided missile destroyer, INS Chennai, within the Red Sea. This strategic move signifies a significant step toward safeguarding global waters.
In a bid to further enhance the spirit of camaraderie and multifaceted defense alliances between India and Saudi Arabia, INS Chennai conducted a notable port call to Jeddah from August 3rd to 5th.
According to reports, during this port visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Chennai engaged in a productive interaction with the Commander of Jeddah Border Guards. Moreover, as part of the diplomatic exchange, Mohd Shahid Alam, CGI Jeddah, visited the ship to acquaint himself with its operational prowess.
As per the report, the vessel's arrival was met with warm receptions from dignitaries representing the Royal Saudi Naval forces, Border Guards, and the Indian Embassy. Following its port call, INS Chennai embarked on a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the Royal Saudi Naval Ship HMS Al Jubail on August 5th.

Defence Ministry to switch to locally built OS Maya amid threats

In the face of increasing cyber and malware attacks on defence as well as critical infrastructure across the country, the Defence Ministry has decided to replace the Microsoft Operating System (OS) in all computers connected to the Internet with a new OS, Maya, based on open-source Ubuntu developed locally.
Currently, Maya is being installed only in Defence Ministry systems and not on computers connected to the networks of the three Services. On this, the official said the three Services had also vetted it and would adopt it on service networks as well soon. The Navy had already cleared it and the Army and the Air Force were currently evaluating it

ADG S Paramesh appointed as Additional Director General Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters i...

Commander (Eastern Seaboard) S Paramesh has been appointed as Additional Director General Coast Guard at Indian Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. The Flag Officer was at the helm of Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), and Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard) before assuming Additional Director General Coast Guard. The Flag Officer is an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi, and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
The Flag Officer is specialised in Navigation & Direction and his sea commands include all major vessels of ICG which include Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast.His key staff assignments include Dy Director General (Operations & Coastal Security), Principal Director (Operations) at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi, and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (East), Chennai.
He is a recipient of the President's Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service, Tatrakshak Medal and was also awarded the Director General Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and FOCINC (East) Commendation in 2009.

Dhaksha Unmanned Systems Wins Order from Army for Supply of 200 Drones, Accessories

Agri solutions provider Coromandel International's subsidiary and drone manufacturer Dhaksha Unmanned Systems secured a supply order for 200 medium-altitude logistics drones and accessories from the Indian Army. This order came on the back of a recent contract for the supply of 400 agri-spraying drones from IFFCO.
These two orders are planned to be delivered over the next 12 months.
The company is the only player in the country to receive type certificates from DGCA for three drone models in medium and small categories for agriculture and surveillance applications.
The defence contract validates Dhaksha's technology capability and its potential to capture opportunities in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) space. This enables entry of Coromandel and Murugappa Group into Indian Defence sector supplies.

These cutting-edge sights are designed for the SIG 716 rifles, a sophisticated 7.62 x 51mm calibre rifle, and were contracted from SIG Sauer Inc, USA.
The order marks a major milestone for India Optel Limited, as it comes after an extensive and rigorous testing phase that lasted for three years. The company's officials expressed pride in their telescopic sights, which weigh a mere 500 grams and offer superior performance capabilities. With the new telescopic sights, Indian soldiers will be equipped to hit targets at an impressive distance of 800 meters, enhancing their operational effectiveness on the field.
The process of selecting the ideal telescopic sights involved rigorous evaluations and comprehensive trials to ensure the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and reliability. After meticulous scrutiny, the telescopic sights from India Optel Limited emerged as the best-suited solution for the SIG 716 rifles.
Features of the Telescopic Sights:
1. Enhanced Range: The advanced telescopic sights provide Indian soldiers with the ability to engage targets at an impressive range of 800 meters. This extended range significantly enhances the Indian Army's capabilities in various operational scenarios.
2. Lightweight Design: The telescopic sights weigh a mere 500 grams, ensuring that soldiers can carry the additional equipment without being burdened by excessive weight during combat or field operations.

Indian Air Force Gets Israeli Spike Missiles

In a boost to its capabilities to destroy enemy targets hidden behind mountains, the Indian Air Force (IAF) received the Israeli Spike Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) anti-tank guided missiles which can hit targets from distances up to 30 km.
The NLOS missiles are now going to be integrated with the Russian-origin fleet of Mi-17V5 helicopters, which would be able take out targets from long ranges and can prove to be very effective against enemy targets and assets hidden behind mountains or hills.
The IAF had started showing interest in these missiles almost two years ago when the Chinese Army deployed a large number of tanks and infantry combat vehicles close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) opposite the Eastern Ladakh sector.
