Indian Army's First Vertical Wind Tunnel Installed at Special Forces Training School in HP

A state-of-the-art wind tunnel, a first-of-its-kind in the Indian Army, that offers a controlled environment to enable military trainees to enhance their skills by simulating real-life free fall conditions, was inaugurated at a training school in Himachal Pradesh. Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande virtually inaugurated 'Indian Army's first Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT)'.
Installation of the first VWT is aligned with the current impetus given to modernising the training infrastructure in the Indian Army.

Twelve Nations to Take Part in Maritime Conclave in Goa

Twelve countries of the Indian Ocean will participate in the 4th edition of the Goa Maritime Conclave between October 29 and 31.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will deliver the keynote address at the event, in which Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand will take part. The theme is "Maritime security in the Indian Ocean region: Converting common maritime priorities into collaborative mitigating frameworks".

Pakistan Tests Ghauri Weapon System

Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the Ghauri weapon system, a week after holding the flight test of the ballistic missile Ababeel Weapon System.
The purpose of the launch is aimed at testing the operational and technical readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command.

Air Marshal Sadhna is First Woman DG of Hospital Wing

Air Marshal Sadhna Saxena Nair took charge as the Director General, Hospital Services (Armed Forces), becoming the first women officer to hold the prestigious post.
She is effectively only the second woman officer who has served throughout in the IAF to be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal.
The first woman officer to achieve this was Air Marshal Padma Bandopadhyay (retd).
The post is considered a prestigious position that is part of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

Indian, Malaysian Armies Participate in Exercise Harimau Shakti-2023

A joint bilateral training exercise "Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023", between the Indian and Malaysian Armies commenced on Monday in Umroi Cantonment, India.
The Malaysian Army contingent comprises troops from the 5^th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army. The Indian contingent is represented by a Battalion of the Rajput Regiment.
The last edition of the Exercise was conducted in Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia in November 2022.
Exercise Harimau Shakti, scheduled till November 5, 2023, will engage approximately 120 personnel from both sides. It is aimed at enhancing military capability for the conduct of Multi Domain Operations in a sub-conventional scenario.

South Korea, US, Japan Hold First Joint Air Drills

South Korea, the United States and Japan carried out their first joint aerial drills.
The exercise, which involved a US nuclear-weapons-capable B-52 bomber, came as Seoul, Washington and Tokyo beef up their defence cooperation against growing missile and nuclear threats from North Korea.
The trilateral exercise took place south of the Korean peninsula, where Seoul and Tokyo's air defence identification zones overlap.
The exercise was "planned to expand the three countries response capabilities against North Korea's growing nuclear and missile threats.

Indian Navy Gets Third Guided Missile Destroyer 'Imphal'

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) delivered to the Indian Navy INS Imphal, the third ship of the Project 15B Class of stealth guided missile destroyers, four months ahead of schedule.
It can accommodate a crew of 312 persons, has an endurance of 4,000 nautical miles, and can carry out a 42-day mission with extended mission time in an out-of-area operation.
Imphal's keel was laid on May 19, 2017 and the ship was launched into water on April 20, 2019. The ship had sailed out for her maiden sea trials on April 28, 2023, and, ever since, has undergone a comprehensive schedule of trials in harbour and at sea, leading up to its Delivery within a record timeframe of only six months. The time taken to build Imphal and for her trials is the shortest for any indigenous destroyer.

Japan Becomes First Nation to Launch an Electromagnetic Railgun from an Offshore Vessel

Japan achieved a significant milestone in the realm of defence technology. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) in collaboration with the Acquisition Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), a division of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, successfully test-fired a medium-caliber maritime electromagnetic railgun from an offshore platform.
ATLA made an official announcement, announcing the successful testing of the maritime electromagnetic railgun. This remarkable feat marked the first time any nation has managed to launch a railgun from an offshore platform. Typically, railguns are mounted on ships, but Japan aspires to employ this technology both on land and at sea, making this test an unprecedented advancement in the field.
A railgun is a cutting-edge electromagnetic weapon designed to launch projectiles at incredibly high velocities, reaching speeds of approximately Mach 7, which is seven times the speed of sound. This technology is capable of targeting various objects, including ships, missiles, and aircraft. The primary goal of Japan's railgun program is to integrate this technology with long-range missiles, augmenting its capacity to intercept aerial targets effectively.

Army's Vajra Corps Conduct Mock Exercise on CBRN Disaster Management

The Army conducted a two-day exercise at its Jalandhar Cantonment on managing chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear disasters.
Exercise Vajra Sahayata, a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) disaster management exercise was conducted by Vajra Corps under the aegis of Western Command headquarters.
A tabletop exercise was conducted on October 16, wherein the participating units from the Army and representatives of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Punjab State Civil Administration deliberated on the role, responsibilities, and present and future capability development of all stakeholders.
The exercise provided an opportunity for the Army to showcase its reaction and mitigation mechanism in concert with NDRF and the civil administration during such deadly disasters.
