China Launches New Satellite from Taiyuan Center in Shanxi Province

China launched a new satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern province of Shanxi.
The satellite, Gaofen-11 03, was launched by a Long March-4B rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully.
The launch marked the 397th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.

Hubble Space Telescope Spots Infant Star in IC 2631

Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope spotted a protostar called J1672835.29-763111.64 (J1672 for short).
The J1672 protostar resides in IC 2631, a reflection nebula located some 500 light-years away in the southern constellation of Chamaeleon.
These objects are part of the Chamaeleon Complex, a large region of gas and dust clouds that harbors numerous newborn and still-forming stars.
Protostars shine with the heat energy released by clouds contracting around them and the accumulation of material from the nearby gas and dust.

Amateur Astronomer Discovers New Dwarf Galaxy

Amateur astronomers discovered a new drawf Galaxy. Named Pisces VII/Triangulum (Tri) III, the newly-discovered galaxy is an ultra-faint dwarf satellite candidate of the Triangulum galaxy (also known as Messier 33 or M33).
Pisces VII/ Tri III was discovered in the Pisces constellation by the amateur astronomer Giuseppe Donatiello using the public imaging data from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys.
The discovery was subsequently confirmed by a visual inspection of the SDSS DR9 images and follow-up observations using the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo.
Pisces VII/ Tri III lies at a projected distance of 72,000 parsecs (234,833 light-years) from the Triangulum Galaxy.

ADIF Ties up with Non-profit Set up to Build Free and Fair App Marketplace

The Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF) entered into a partnership with the Coalition for App Fairness to jointly work towards a free and fair app marketplace for all developers.
Coalition for App Fairness (CAF) is an independent global non-profit organisation formed to protect consumer choice, foster competition, and create a level playing field for all app and game developers worldwide. Some its members include Spotify and Blockchain.com
The partnership comes on the heels of the Global Conference on Mobile App Ecosystem Fairness held in South Korea where the discussion centered around the need for regulating the application ecosystem.

India Launches 41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica

The Ministry of Earth Science launched the 41st scientific expedition to Antarctica as the first batch of 23 scientists and support staff reached the Indian Antarctic station Maitri. Four more batches will reach Antarctica by mid-January 2022.
Once all the batches of the Indian contingent reach Antarctica, they will launch two major programs as part of India's 41st expedition to Antarctica.
The first program includes geological exploration of the Amery ice shelf at Bharati station. This program will aid in exploring the link between India and Antarctica in the past.
The second program includes reconnaissance surveys and preparatory work for drilling of 500 meters of ice core near Maitri station. This program will aid to improve the understanding of Antarctic climate, sea-ice, westerly winds, and greenhouse gases from a single climate archive for the past 10,000 years.

Scientists in Ahmedabad Discover Exoplanet 1.4 Times Bigger than Jupiter

Scientists from the Ahmedabad-based Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) have discovered an exoplanet that is 725 light years away from us and orbiting an ageing star that has 1.5 times the mass of our sun.
The exoplanet is 1.4 times the size of Jupiter and it is orbiting unusually close to a star, completing one orbit in just 3.2 Earth days. Despite being bigger than Jupiter, its mass is 70% that of the solar system's largest planet.
Exoplanets are planetary bodies that are outside our solar system and they usually orbit a star.
The distance between the newly discovered exoplanet and its star is nearly one-tenth the distance between the Sun and Mercury.
