TCS, Wipro, IndusNet Teams Win Microsoft India's Coding Hackathon

  • Microsoft India announced the top three winning teams of the coding hackathon, shortlisted based on their innovation and impact, were from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, and IndusNet.
  • The winning teams will receive cash rewards and exclusive invites to the Future Ready Technology Summit to be held in Bengaluru on January 5.
  • TCS's Ambarish Ganguly stood first, using Azure Cognitive Services and AI to design an Agriculture Hub that serves as a one-stop destination for farmers.
  • The second-placed Wipro team of two created a next-generation smart-search solution using Azure Cognitive Search Service to show how to boost search operations and improve productivity, employee engagement, and operational costs.
  • The third-placed team of five developers from IndusNet created a Smart Commercial Vehicle Tracking System using Azure IoT Services.

Centre to Launch Digital India Innovation Fund for Catalysing Deep Tech Start-ups

  • Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the Centre will soon launch a Digital India Innovation Fund that will support deep tech start-ups in the country.
  • The Minister made these remarks while addressing college students as part of the "New India for Young India: Techade of Opportunities" programme at the Catholic Bishop House Campus, Thamarassery, Kerala.
  • The minister mentioned that PM's vision of New India is one with ample opportunities for every Indian to participate in the development process.

NRDC Undertakes Tech Commercialisation for Indian Start-ups

  • From January 1, 2023, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) undertook Technology Commercialisation for the benefit of Indian start-ups.
  • As per Union Minister Jitendra Singh, since inception, NRDC has concluded more than 5,000 license agreements representing technologies in almost all industry sectors.
  • NRDC assists the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) of DPIIT in technically evaluating start-ups for their recognition to avail benefits extended by the Government of India and to date over 7,500 applications of start-ups have been assessed.
  • NRDC is also associated with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for the implementation of their start-up Scheme from identification of start-ups and hand-holding to product launch.
  • NRDC has entered into an MoU with The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for mentoring and monitoring export-oriented agri-based start-ups.

Musk's SpaceX to Launch Israeli Spy Satellite in Final Mission for 2022

  • After successfully conducting the targetted 60 launches in a year, Elon Musk's SpaceX added one more mission to that illustrious list. SpaceX conducted the final launch of the year as it blasted off the ISI EROS C-3 mission to a low-earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
  • EROS-C is part of the EROS satellite group, which was first deployed by Israel in 2000. According to reports, the spy satellite, by the end of the decade, will form part of a quartet of EROS satellites that will work alongside two synthetic aperture radar satellites.
  • EROS-C is a state-of-the-art earth observation satellite, with superb image quality providing ultra-high-resolution imagery. It is designed to support the most demanding operational challenges defense & intelligence organizations are presently facing," Israel-based company ImageSat International, said on its website.

France to Provide Two Observation Satellites, Receiving Station to Poland

  • France will provide Poland with two observation satellites and a receiving station under a deal sealed in Warsaw which Poland says will help its armed forces recognise threats early.
  • Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, after meeting with his French counterpart Sbastien Lecornu, announced that they approved an agreement between Airbus and the Polish Armament Agency on equipping the Polish army with two reconnaissance satellites.
  • The Polish Armament Agency put the total value of the deal at 575 million euros ($612 million) and said the launch of the satellites into space would be completed by 2027.

Power Ministry, DRDO Signs MoU for Early Warning System for Hydro Projects

  • The Power Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for the implementation of an early warning system for vulnerable hydro projects or power stations.
  • The ministry and the DRDO will jointly work towards developing suitable mitigation measures against avalanches, landslides, glaciers, glacial lakes and other geo-hazards.
  • The expertise of the DRDO will also be utilized in developing comprehensive Early Warning System (EWS) for vulnerable hydro projects/ power stations in hilly regions.
  • The ministry has taken the initiative of implementing Early Warning System (EWS) in the hydro power projects especially those located in upper reaches of hilly regions.
  • The EWS is an integrated system of hazard monitoring, forecasting and prediction, disaster risk assessment, communication and preparedness for timely action to reduce disaster risks in advance of hazardous events.
