Kumbh Mela 2019

As per the Ministry of Culture, the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela 2019 has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest crowd management, largest sanitation drive and largest painting exercise of public sites.
A three-member team from the Guinness World Records visited Prayagraj for the purpose.
The Kumbh Mela is the largest congregation of people anywhere in the world. Ardh Kumbh is held in every six years, while the Kumbh Mela comes after 12 years.
This year the Uttar Pradesh had renamed Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh and the Kumbh as Maha Kumbh. The Kumbh Mela is attended by ascetics, Saints, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Kalpvasis and pilgrims from all walks of life.

Artists from India Win Japan Snow Sculpting Competition

Three poor, rural lads have won accolades for the country by bagging the first prize at the international snow art competition held in Japan.
Hailing from remote villages of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Uttar Pradesh (UP), the three artists pooled their resources to participate in the event and got the achievement without any government sponsorship or support.
Working under the most adverse conditions, the ill-equipped youths of Team India Abhyuday beat the better equipped 11 teams from eight developed countries that participated in the International Snow Sculpturing Competition (ISSC) Japan Cup 2019, held at Nayoro in Japan from February 6 to 9.
Team Russia and Team Thailand came second and third respectively.
This was the first-ever team from India to participate in the extremely popular competition in Japan.

Festival SOPAN 2019

For an artist, there's no bigger appreciation than to get an audience that views and enjoys their art.
The ongoing festival SOPAN 2019 has been providing such a platform to young artists for the past few days.
Spread over six days, this event by Sahitya Kala Parishad offers young musicians and dancers a stage where they can showcase their skills, early in their career.
The young scholarship holders of Sahitya Kala Parishad are therefore taking forward the traditional Indian art forms such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathakali.

Ghalib's Mural Unveiled at Mumbai

There couldn't have been better ambassadors for legendary Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib (1797 – 1869) than eminent poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar and scriptwriter Javed Siddiqui.
After unveiling India's first mural of Ghalib (42X10ft) at Nagpada junction in Mumbai, Akhtar and Siddiqui, along with BMC officials, politicians, including corporator Rais Shaikh who initiated the project, moved to the massive Jijamata Udyan (Zoo in Byculla) to remember Ghalib's singular contributions to India's culture.

Sangam Music App to Raise Heritage Awareness

Sangam Music, made an appearance on the App store and the Playstore. Featuring devotional songs and classical compositions by musicians such as the late M S Subbulakshmi, the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, the late Gangubhai Hangal, and several contemporary stalwarts, the app isn't the brainchild of a record company.
Sangam Music is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture, through the National Cultural Audiovisual Archives of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, an autonomous body under the ministry.
The app has not been officially launched yet. It is still undergoing testing for feature enhancements and user interface refinements. The idea is to make people, especially young people, familiar with the diverse classical and folk music heritage of the country.
