PM Modi Announces PM-SHRI Scheme to develop 14,500 Schools across the Country

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana under which 14,500 schools from across the country would be upgraded as PM-SHRI schools.
  • These schools would become model schools and would encapsulate the full spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • The PM-SHRI schools would have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education.
  • These schools will be equipped with modern infrastructure including labs, smart classrooms, libraries, sports equipment, art room, among others, that is inclusive and accessible.

IIM-A Announces Kamla Chowdhry Communications Hub in Honour of its First Faculty Member

  • The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) announced the creation of the Kamla Chowdhry Communications Hub, named after its first faculty member, Professor Kamla Chowdhry.
  • Kamla Chowdhry was not only the first faculty member but was also known for her contribution to the institute's growth and success.
  • This newly-launched hub will play a role in consolidating IIMA's leadership in management education and research, as well as promoting the IIM-A brand through a portfolio of communication and marketing engagements. It will also function as a unified unit serving the Institute's and all of its internal and external stakeholders' needs.

IIT Bombay Launches e-Yantra Innovation Challenge; Winners to Get Seed Funding of 1 crore

  • The e-Yantra Innovation Challenge (eYIC 2022-23) was launched by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay to seek solutions for inclusive urban infrastructure. e-Yantra is a Robotics outreach program that caters to young engineers in solving problems using technology.
  • Winning teams who successfully pitch will receive seed funding from a prize pool of Rs. 1 crore.
  • e-Yantra Innovation Challenge (eYIC) is an annual competition that trains student teams in crucial skills through MOOCs before getting them to solve real-world problems and build start-ups. It was started in 2014 and for the past few years, on average, 2000 students have participated in e-Yantra's Innovation Challenge.

International Earth Science Olympiad: Indian Team Wins 4 Gold, 4 Silver, 6 Bronze

  • At the International Earth Science Olympiad- 2022 a team of Indian school students won four gold, four silver and six bronze medals. The olympiad was held in Aosta Valley in Italy. Two hundred students from 38 countries attended the competition virtually.
  • The medal winning Indian students were Kyishong Bharali Das (Tamil Nadu), Bhanav Namboodri (Kerala), Sonit Sisolekar (Maharashtra), Abhijay Singh Khehra (Punjab), Avishi Agrawal (Rajasthan), Jaagrit Gaur (Chandigarh), Siddhangana Sahoo (Odisha), and Arush Chaudhary (Rajasthan).
  • This programme was funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and organised by the Geological Society of India (GSI), Bengaluru, as an outreach initiative for school students.

Three States to Set up Bulk Drug Parks to Boost Pharma Production

  • The Department of Pharmaceuticals has given 'in-principle' approval to the proposals of the three states —Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh—under the Scheme for 'Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks', an initiative to support drugs manufacturing in the country.
  • The scheme, notified in 2020 has a financial outlay of Rs. 3,000 crore. It aims to provide financial assistance to three states for establishing Bulk Drug Parks and aims to bring down the cost of manufacturing bulk drugs by creating world-class common infrastructure facilities.
  • The financial assistance to the proposed Bulk Drug Park in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh would be 70% of the project cost of common infrastructure facilities. In case of Himachal Pradesh, being categorised as a 'hilly state', the financial assistance would be 90% of the project cost.

NSE Academy, HDFC AMC Launch Financial Literacy Programme for College Students

  • NSE Academy Limited (NAL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and HDFC Asset Management Company Limited (HDFC AMC) collaborated and launched a programme named 'Invest-Verse' for college students.
  • The course will also be made available on HDFC Mutual Fund's MFBytes application. The programmes will be delivered through online and application-based training and will be co-certified by both institutions.
  • The aim of the programme is to reach the next wave of first-time investors by educating and empowering them to be earners while promoting financial literacy. The programme attendees will be co-certified by both institutions.

Indira Gandhi Centre to Teach Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas from this Year

  • The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) started three new post-graduate courses that focus on Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas and puranas. The organisation, which functions under the Ministry of Culture, is offering 11 courses, out of which four new courses – Hindu Studies, Bharatiya Jnana Parampara, Indian Literature and Museology – have been launched this year.
  • The session for this year starts on September 1 and concludes in May, 2023.
  • Few universities in the country offer any course on Hindu Studies, besides the Banaras Hindu University and IIT-Kharagpur.
