IIM Ahmedabad Announces 30 New Scholarships for PGP Batch of 2023-25

  • The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) announced 30 new scholarships for the incoming Class of 2023-25. The scholarships were contributed by the IIMA alumni through the IIMA Endowment Fund.
  • As per the release, a total of 10 scholarships of Rs. 10 lakh each and 202 scholarships of Rs. 5 lakh each will be awarded to students early in the first year and the second year.
  • In addition to these scholarships, the Institute has several others in the form of awards for Academic and all-round excellence and performance in specific subjects, which are either awarded by the Institute, alumni, individual or organisational donors.

President Droupadi Murmu Launches New ICAI CA Syllabus

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the CA Foundation Day celebrations and launched the new syllabus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The event, marking ICAI's 75th anniversary, took place at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi.
The new syllabus introduced by ICAI incorporates modern topics like Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, aiming to equip CA aspirants with future-ready skills in line with International Education Standards and the National Education Policy, 2020.
The launch of the new syllabus by President Droupadi Murmu signifies a significant step in preparing CA students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

National Exit Test for MBBS Students from Next May

  • The first National Exit test (NExT), a common licentiate examination to replace university-level final MBBS examination, National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-PG (NEET-PG) and Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), will be conducted in May 2024.
  • Clearing this examination will be a must to receive a registration as a doctor to practice medicine in India. It will also serve as a test for postgraduate selections for all specialties.
  • The National Medical Commission (NMC) made this announcement in a virtual meeting with medical colleges across India.
  • The medical education regulator also announced that the first step of NExT or NExT-1, which will test students on theoretical aspects, will be held twice annually in May and November while NExT- 2 which will evaluate students on practical and clinical skills will be held once a year.

QS World Rankings 2024: IIT Guwahati Enters the World's Top 25% Institutions List

  • The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati achieved a spot in the 'World's Top 25 per cent Institutions List' in the QS World University Rankings 2024. The Institute achieved rank 364 in the world in the overall ranking and ranks 7 in India. With this, the Institute improved its global rank by 20 places and its Indian rank by 1 place.

NUS Makes History: First Asian University in QS Rankings Best 10

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US topped the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking for the twelfth consecutive time this year (2023), followed closely by UK's Cambridge University and Oxford University. Notably, the National University of Singapore (NUS) moved up three positions from rank 11 last year (2022) to become the first Asian university to break into the top 10 club.
  • The rankings in the latest edition saw minimal changes within the top 10 list. However, significant fluctuations were observed in the lower rankings.
  • Overall, American universities made up half of the top 20 institutions in the world, with UC Berkeley, after a long absence, making a comeback to the best 10 list this time (2023). ETH Zurich retained its title as the best university in Europe for the sixteenth year in a row.

IIT Bombay Breaks into Top 150 in QS World Ranking

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mumbai achieved its highest rank ever, breaking into the world's top 150 universities in the latest edition of the QS World University Ranking released in June 2023. This marked the first time in eight years that an Indian higher education institution made it to the top 150 list, with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore previously achieving this feat in 2016 with a ranking of 147.
  • IIT Bombay was ranked 1st in India and moved significantly up from 177th rank last year (2022) to 149th rank this year (2023) in the QS World University Rankings, with an overall score of 51.7 out of 100.

IIT Mandi Combines Academia, DRDOs, DPSUs, and Armed Forces to Foster Technology for Defence

  • On Day 4 of the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi's mega G20 – S20 Meet Academia, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), DPSUs, and Armed Forces came together to discuss and highlight the enhancement of technological development through collaborative approach. The theme of this event was 'Technology for Defence.'
  • Air Vice Marshal PKH Sinha (Retd), the Strategic Advisor of IIT Mandi coordinated the event along with Dr. Rajnish Sharma and emphasised creating an ecosystem that fosters innovation and encourages the development of technologies for defence usage.
  • In addition to this, the event included multiple guest talks from DRDO and the public sector unit on the importance of technology for defence.
  • IIT Mandi is working actively in the field of Defence research and innovation.

MCD School Principals to be Trained at IIM Ahmedabad, other IIMs

  • In a significant development aimed at enhancing the quality of education in MCD schools, principals from these schools will now receive school leadership and management training at prestigious institutions, including IIM Ahmedabad and other IIMs.
  • This move mirrors the successful teacher training initiatives implemented in Delhi government schools.
  • The objective of this training is to bring about a transformation in MCD schools by equipping principals with high-quality skills and knowledge.
