Gujarat Launches Scheme to provide Rented Accommodation to Construction Workers for Rs. 5 per Day

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched a scheme to provide temporary accommodation to nearly 15,000 construction workers at a nominal rate of Rs. 5 per day.
  • For the 'Shramik Basera' scheme, the CM performed the ground-breaking ceremony of 17 dwelling structures to house the labourers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and Rajkot cities.
  • In the next three years, more such dwelling centres will be built across Gujarat for the benefit of about 3 lakh construction workers. The project will cost Rs. 1,500 crore, he said.

Madhya Pradesh Tops in PM SVANidhi Scheme as Best Performing State

  • Madhya Pradesh was recognised as the 'Best Performing State' under the Prime Minister SVANidhi scheme, which supports urban street vendors with collateral-free loans up to Rs. 50,000. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry announced this accolade, with Assam securing the second position in the 'Best Performing States – Innovation and Best Practices Award' category.
  • Launched in June 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the PM SVANidhi scheme provides micro-credit to street vendors in urban areas to help them recover from the economic impact of the crisis. The scheme offers collateral-free loans up to Rs. 50,000, repayable within a year, aiming to enhance financial stability and support small businesses.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Announces Ladla Bhai Yojana

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the 'Ladla Bhai Yojana' for boys in the state after announcing the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana' for girls. Speaking in Maharashtra's Pandharpur, Shinde reportedly said that the state government does not differentiate between boys and girls and that the 'Ladla Bhai Yojana' scheme will solve the unemployment issue.
  • The Ladla Bhai Yojana is for youths in Maharashtra who have passed the 12th grade.
  • Under this scheme, students who have completed their 12th grade will receive Rs. 6,000 per month. Meanwhile, students holding a diploma will receive Rs. 8,000 per month, while those who have graduated will be given Rs. 10,000 per month. Besides, the youth will also be given an opportunity to undergo a one-year apprenticeship in a factory, gaining valuable work experience that will help them secure jobs based on that experience.

Shakti Scheme Has Not Affected KSRTC's Financial Losses: Minister

  • Karnataka transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the Shakti scheme, which has increased Karnataka State Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) ridership by 2 million annually, is not responsible for the corporation's financial losses.
  • "The Shakti scheme has generated significant goodwill and brought in more travellers. It has not caused any losses," Karnataka transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said amid a proposal by the transport department to increase bus fares by 15 to 20%.
  • The state government's Shakti scheme provides free bus travel for women within the state. The scheme is one of the five guarantees that were made by the ruling Congress in Karnataka ahead of polls earlier this year. Under the scheme, women from the state are eligible to travel for free on non-luxury public transport buses in the state.

Karnataka Cabinet Approves Bill Mandating 100% Reservation for Kannadigas in Private Sector

  • The Karnataka Cabinet gave its nod to a bill that mandates 100 per cent reservation for Kannadigas in private sector jobs, specifically for Group C and Group D posts. The bill is seen as a significant move towards prioritising the employment of Kannadigas, reinforcing the state's commitment to supporting its local workforce. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting.
  • According to the bill, it mandates that industries, factories, and other establishments must appoint fifty per cent of local candidates in management categories and seventy per cent in non-management categories. This legislation aims to ensure that Kannadigas have a substantial representation in the workforce across different job categories, furthering the state's objective of supporting and prioritising its local population in employment.
