PM To Launch Rs 13,500cr Livestock Disease Control Scheme

  •  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, 2019 will launch a Rs 13,500-crore central scheme to control livestock diseases, especially foot and mouth disease (FMD) and brucellosis, from Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh.
  • This was announced by Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singh. Singh exuded confidence that FMD and brucellosis diseases would be eradicated in the next five years with the help of this Rs 13,500 crore vaccination scheme.
  • The minister said these diseases need to be eradicated to boost exports.

Centre Constitutes Task Force For Drawing Up National Infrastructure Pipeline

  •  The Central government  constituted a task force for drawing up the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) of Rs 100 lakh crore from the fiscal year 2019-20 to 2024-25.
  • The Task Force headed by Economic Affairs Secretary will identify technically feasible and economically viable infrastructure projects that can be initiated during the current fiscal.
  • To achieve the gross domestic product (GDP) of five trillion dollars by 2024-25, India needs to spend about 1.4 trillion dollars (Rs 100 lakh crore) over these years on infrastructure. In the past decade (FY 2008-17), India invested about 1.1 trillion dollars on infrastructure.

Govt Launches Updated Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme For MSMEs

  •  The government launched the updated Credit linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS) to allow micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) access to capital.
  • MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the government would prepare a final report on the recommendations of the U K Sinha committee, which had been set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to suggest expeditious ways to strengthen MSMEs.
  • Gadkari said the CLCSS scheme would be crucial in raising MSME contribution to gross domestic product from the current 29 per cent to 50 per cent, in addition to increasing exports from the sector to 50 per cent from 40 per cent now.
  • The scheme provides an upfront subsidy of 15 per cent on institutional credit up to Rs 1 crore for MSMEs in the specified 51 sub-sectors.

Rs 125 Crore Allotted To IIT-Kharagpur For Centre's SATHI Initiative

  •  IIT Kharagpur has been selected for setting up a Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institute (SATHI), a Department of Science and Technology initiative of the Centre, for which Rs 125 crore has been earmarked over a period of three years.
  • The primary objective of the state-of-the-art, professionally managed science and technology infrastructure facility will be to extend help to the academic institutes in the neighbouring regions.
  • Research establishments and industries, particularly start-ups and manufacturing units, will also be able to use the sophisticated instruments in a few select areas.
  • IIT Kharagpur will treat the SATHI Centre as its Social Scientific Responsibility (SSR) programme to promote the culture of science-based entrepreneurship and start-ups in the country.

Delhi Cabinet Includes OBC, Gen Category Students In 'Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Yojana'

  •  The Delhi Cabinet decided to include other backward class and general category students in its 'Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Yojana', and enhance financial assistance from Rs 40,000 to Rupees one lakh for coaching for various competitive exams.
  •  Earlier, the scheme was only for the scheduled caste category students under which financial assistance of up to Rs 40,000 was provided.
  • The move comes at a time when only a few months are left for the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled to be held early in 2020.

Govt Hikes Ethanol Procurement Price For Fuel Blending

  •  The government announced an increase in the price of ethanol procured by public sector oil marketing companies for one year starting December, 2019.
  • The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The price of ethanol derived from C heavy molasses has been increased from Rs 43.46 a litre to Rs 43.75 per litre, and for B heavy molasses to Rs 54.27 per litre from Rs 52.43 earlier.
  • Also, the price of ethanol from sugarcane juice, sugar, sugar syrup route has been fixed at Rs 59.48 per litre.
  • The increased prices have been approved for the forthcoming sugar season 2019-20 and will be applicable from December 1, 2019 to November 30, 2020.
