Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has launched a scheme to improve the socio-economic condition and hone the skills of thousands of sanitation workers in the state.
Patnaik said while launching the scheme that despite several strides in various sectors in India, sanitation workers have been deprived of safety, dignity and decent livelihood, apart from suffering social stigma and exclusion.

PM Modi Inaugurates 1.75 Lakh Houses Built Under PMAY - Gramin in MP
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 1.75 lakh houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin in 12 thousand villages in Madhya Pradesh. The Prime Minister released the 'Griha Pravesham' plaque and inaugurated all the houses simultaneously.
Prime Minister said that Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana is not just about providing housing, but also about instilling confidence in the poor so that they are free of daily struggles and they can focus towards building a better future and can sleep peacefully.
Describing PMAY-Gramin as a fine example of converting crisis into opportunity, Shri Modi informed that despite various challenges due to COVID-19, construction of 18 lakh houses have been completed in the nation. Out of which, 1.75 lakh houses were constructed in Madhya Pradesh itself. Instead of 125 days, work has been completed in 35 - 40 days.
Govt to Introduce Bill to Make Law Banning Manual Scavenging More Stringent
The government plans to make the law banning manual scavenging more stringent by introducing a bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation (Amendment) Bill, 2020, also proposes to completely mechanise sewer cleaning and provide better protection at work and compensation in case of accidents, officials said.
Currently, engaging any person for hazardous cleaning of sewers and septic tanks by any person or agency is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years or a fine up of to Rs 5 lakh or both.

Cabinet Approves Amendments to 3 Labour Codes
The Union cabinet approved amendments to the labour codes on social security, industrial relations, and occupational safety and health (OSH), which could include pension and medical benefits to gig workers.
The codes – to be moved in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament – will allow states to introduce significant changes to their labour laws framework, such as rules for retrenchment, through notifications.
GoI Launches Five Star Village Scheme to Ensure 100% Rural Coverage of Postal Schemes
On September 10, 2020, the Department of Posts launched a scheme called the "Five Star Villages".
The scheme ensures universal coverage of flagship postal schemes in rural areas of India.
It seeks to bridge the gap in public awareness and reach postal services and products in the interior of villages.
The scheme is to be implemented by a team of Gramin Dak Sevak.
The team will be headed by the Branch Post Master.
Deendayal Antyodaya Rasoi Scheme to provide meals at a subsidised rate to underprivileged people was re-introduced in Madhya Pradesh. Now the rate per thali has been increased to Rs 10 from Rs 5.
The decision was taken in the fifth virtual cabinet meeting.
The scheme, which was launched in 2017 in 49 districts of the state in the name of BJP ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, had been discontinued by the previous Congress government in May 2019. Then chief minister Kamal Nath had announced to introduce Indira Thali scheme to provide food to poor people at a subsidised rate but the scheme couldn't be implemented.

Govt. Launches New Aatmanirbhar Bharat Schemes to Support MSMEs, Start-ups
The Centre launched the Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE-Atal New India Challenges programme to support MSMEs and start-ups for making India innovative, resilient, tech-driven, and research and development (R&D)-oriented.
The Niti Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), in collaboration with ISRO and four ministries, will focus on challenges in 15 sectors through the programme.
According to Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, the programme provides a great opportunity for the government to become the first buyer of indigenous Made in India technology solutions.
Kant also expressed hope that the Atal Innovation Mission, through the ARISE-Atal New India Challenges, will help in breaking new ground and this will be a path-breaking approach for driving India in the field of innovation.

As a part of the "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" campaign, a YouTube channel has been started which uploads a video on every Wednesday, by which the students can practice for a week to maintain fitness and make up for the loss of physical activities amid pandemic.

Delhi Government Launches Niraman Mazdoor Registration Abhiyan
The Delhi government launched a 15-day campaign for registration of construction workers in all the 70 assembly constituencies in of Delhi.
Delhi's Labour and Employment Minister Gopal Rai said that in a bid to expand this whole registration procedure, the Delhi government is holding "Niraman Mazdoor Registration Abhiyan", from August 24 to September 11, a mega campaign for the registration of construction labourers.
The Delhi government has set up camps at 70 schools for registration of construction labourers - one each in every assembly constituency. For those construction workers who wish to get registered online, can submit the application on www.edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, Government of Odisha has brought out a new scheme for promoting Intensive Aquaculture through Bio-floc Technology in Fisheries. This is an advanced fish farming technology introduced in the State to provide livelihood support to entrepreneurs, unemployed youth and interested progressive fish farmers of the state, aimed atincreasingfish productivityand make the state self-sufficient in fish production.
Bio-floc based farming system is a new technology for promotion of intensive fish/ shrimp production in a limited area without significantly increasing the usage of the basic natural resources of water and land. A Person having small land holding (as small as 150-200 square meter of land) and having either municipal piped water supply or bore well water supply can establish this business with small investment. This programme aims to support fish farmers and young entrepreneurs for generation of income and livelihood support.
