Yogi Adityanth Launches 'Mission Shakti' Campaign

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that there will be a separate room now for women complainants in 1535 police stations across the state. The UP CM made the announcement at the launch event of 'Mission Shakti' programme for women security in the state.
  • The mission aims to reduce crime against women in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Expressing sadness over the Balrampur rape-incident, Yogi said that the incident was very unfortunate and that's why he decided to launch this mission from Balrampur. He said, ''To pay homage to the victim of a very unfortunate incident, I decided to kick-off Mission Shakti campaign from Balrampur & I'm extremely delighted to launch this programme. Mission Shakti aims at guaranteeing security & respect for every woman in the state.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan Launches Second Phase of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana

  • The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan has launched the second phase of "Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana".
  • The scheme has been launched  for the underprivileged Thalassemic patients.
  • This scheme was launched in 2017. It is a Coal India CSR funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) program.
  • The programme is aimed at providing a one-time cure opportunity for Haemoglobinopathies like Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Disease for patients who have a matched family donor. This initiative of CSR has targeted to provide financial assistance to 200 patients by providing a package cost of Rs. 10 lakhs per HSCT.

Telangana Government and Intel India to Launch Artificial Intelligence Research Centre

  • The Telangana Government along with Intel India will launch artificial intelligence research centre in Hyderabad. This was announced during the inaugural session of artificial intelligence 2020 virtual Summit. The research centre is to be launched in collaboration with International Institute of Information Technology and Public Health foundation of India.
  • The centre has been named INAI.
  • INAI is INtel AI. AI is Artificial Intelligence. It is a national level Research Centre. The centre will take initiative to apply artificial intelligence to population scale problems in India. The centre will focus on identifying and solving challenges in smart mobility segment and Healthcare.
  • The initiative will create National assets such as computing infrastructure curated data sets tools and frameworks to attract Global talent to achieve social sector development. The initiative will bring together multiple Institutions and is anchored by IIIT-Hyderabad.

Gujarat Disturbed Area Act (Amendment) bill, 2020

  • On October 12, 2020, the president Ramnath Kovind assented the Gujarat Distributed Area act (Amendment) Bill 2019. The amendment will prohibit transfer of assets that is the immovable property in disturbed areas. Also, it will protect the tenants from vacating the property.
  • Gujarat prohibition of transfer of immovable property and provision for protection of tenants from eviction from premises in disturbed areas act 1991 is commonly referred to as Disturbed Areas act.
  • The main objective of the act is to check on elements that cause demographic imbalance and to stop polarisation.

Government to Introduce Energy Conservation Policy

  • According to a release by State Energy Conservation Mission CEO A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy, in an attempt to achieve energy security, cost-effective power and strengthen the power sector, Andhra Pradesh government is contemplating to introduce a new policy for promotion of the use of the latest and efficient technologies for energy conservation in various sectors.
  • He stated that the Energy Department was eliciting the views of experts and the Central agencies such as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and institutes such as The Energy Resources Institute (TERI), Central Board of Irrigation and Power and Alliance for Energy Efficient Economy for formulating the policy.
  • The policy is aimed at conserving energy being used in industries, buildings, civic bodies , agriculture, transport, power utilities, commercial and residential sectors.

Tree Transplant Policy of Delhi Government

  • The Cabinet under Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved "Tree Transplantation Policy". The policy makes it mandatory to transplant 80 percentage of the trees that are being felled for a development project. Also, an additional 10 saplings should be planted as compensatory plantation.
  • The policy is first of its kind in the country. The policy does not apply if 10 or less trees are felled for the development project. Under the policy, the invasive species are excluded from the list of species that will be transplanted. In order to address the challenge of survival rate of transplanted tree national level agencies are to be appointed as a part of an expert panel.
  • The State Government of Delhi is to set up a tree transplantation cell. A panel has been formed from the identified agencies.

Trivendra Singh Launches Mukhya Mantri Saur Swarijgar Yojana

  • The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched Mukhya Mantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana in Dehradun. The scheme promotes self-employment of the youth. It also promotes production of green energy.
  • The scheme mainly targets migrant workers and youth who have returned to their homes after leaving their jobs in different parts of the country due to covid-19 lockdown.
  • The beneficiaries of the scheme are to be allocated with solar power plants of 25 KW each. It is estimated that these power plants will generate 38,000 units of electricity per year.
  • The generated electricity is to be bought by Uttarakhand Power Corporation for 25 years.
  • Under the scheme, the private banks and cooperative banks are to provide loans for 15 years. The loans are to be provided at an interest rate of 8% per annum to set up solar power plants. The plants are to be constructed on private land or lands that are taken on lease.

Jagan Reddy Launches Jagananna Vudya Kanuka Scheme

  • The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched Jagan Anna Vidya Kanuka scheme.
  • The state government has allocated Rs. 650 crores for the scheme. Under the scheme the state government will provide school kits to 43.32 to lakh government school students.
  • The kits to be provided have been named Vidya Kanuka kits. The kit comprises of one pair of shoes, three pairs of uniform, two pairs of socks, textbooks, notebooks, school bag and belt.
  • The stitching charges of the uniform are to be credited to the mother's accounts. Andhra Pradesh government has launched exclusive schemes for mothers in the state.
